About me

Counselling is a great way of exploring situations in your life which have caused emotional discomfort or traumatic experiences that can sometimes lead to you struggling to find focus with everyday situations and life.

As a counsellor, I have found that exploring these issues can help you to understand the situations better and realise how those issues have impacted your life. My goal is to help you overcome some of these mental health problems so that you can manage or even flourish in life.

I have been described as approachable and very easy to get on with. I am very empathetic and I believe that you will find me to be relaxing, warm and non-judgemental. I have gained a vast knowledge of different mental health issues which has helped me improve my counselling skills and be better equipped to help you.

In our sessions I will listen to you and offer a safe place for you to talk. We will work together to help you through whatever you are experiencing. I will value and encourage you to be autonomous and I believe that we can work together to empower you to find your own path and direction. I won’t have all the answers, nor will I pretend that I do, but we will work together to help you achieve valuable understanding and clarity of your dilemma or situation.

I offer short term, long term and open ended therapy. This way we can work together until you feel that counselling is no longer needed.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have been a qualified counsellor for over 7 years. I currently work at Compass Counselling Services as a volunteer and supporting university students. Prior to this I worked at Mind as a counsellor and as a temporary manager. I also work within secure mental health services supporting those who are struggling with complex mental health needs.

Other previous experiences include: Community Mental Health Crisis Team, Early Intervention Psychosis Team, Community Dementia Support Services and Acute Mental Health Hospital.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
