About me

I am Terri a qualified Counsellor and founder of The Sense Project.

As a Counsellor specialising in Trauma for over 10 years across many settings, including Sexual violence services, Schools and most recently in a major government inquiry I have developed a passion for supporting women and girls at all stages of their lives.

I am passionate about empowering women, supporting them to find their way in a world that often feels like it works against them. I want women to thrive rather than simply survive.

I believe that by having a safe, confidential space to:

  • explore your feelings
  • understand your past experiences and how they can inhibit your life in the present
  • heal pain and suffering in both mind and body
  • understand how systems, oppression, politics and culture can affect our sense of self

We can be empowered to live our lives as the truest version of ourselves.

About me

I am Terri a Qualified Integrative Counsellor

I have over 10 years experience of working as a Counsellor.

In this time I have worked both in private practice and also as a Counsellor and Senior Counsellor in many settings.

I began my career mainly working with adolescents in secondary schools and colleges, an area of work I am still very much passionate about.  Adolescence is a vital time in our lives where we are forming our identity, where our experiences often form us, they become the things we take into adulthood.  I thoroughly enjoyed supporting young people through this stage of their lives and felt it was important work because for many of us we had no support navigating our teenage years.

I chose to specialise in Trauma, as I wanted to understand how people are impacted by traumatic experiences, especially those occurring in childhood. I  completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Trauma Therapy alongside a vast array of relevant training days. I spent my time mainly working with victims and survivors of sexual violence.  I worked as a group and one to one counsellor at a major rape crisis centre. Alongside this role I supported victims of sexual assault and rape within an NHS sexual assault referral centre.

My most recent role has been as a senior Counsellor at a major government inquiry.

Across my career I have been particularly passionate about supporting people in understanding how their experiences whether in childhood or adulthood have impacted them. I believe that counselling can offer you a safe and supportive space to explore your experiences and your feelings.

After taking some time off to focus on my family and become a mother, I have also developed a passion for supporting mothers through their experiences.  By supporting mothers mental health and wellbeing we are also supporting their children.

The Sense Project is me pulling together all of my experience as a counsellor to predominantly focus on supporting women and girls across all areas of their lives and experiences.

I provide one to one counselling, EMDR therapy, group counselling, workshops and wellbeing days.

My Counselling Approach

In our first session we will explore what has brought you to counselling and how you hope it may help you. If appropriate, we might explore your current situation in more detail, what you are struggling with, how you currently cope and any past experiences you feel have impacted you. Together, we will begin to develop an understanding of what you need and what you hope to achieve.  The first session is often called an assessment session, and whilst this may sound quite daunting it simply means that it is an initial session to discuss and assess whether counselling could be helpful to you at this time, or whether there are other options which may be more suitable or supportive. You are under no obligation to continue receiving counselling sessions after this session and you may need time to think about whether is is right for you.

Counselling provides a safe and confidential environment for you to discuss  problems you are facing  and any difficult feelings you encounter in a safe, confidential environment. It is a process people seek when they want to change something in their lives, or simply explore their thoughts and feelings in more depth. As a counsellor, I respect that you are the expert of your own life, and that your experiences are unique to you. Therefore I will not provide advice. Instead I will encourage you to talk about what's going on for  you in order to uncover any root causes and identify your specific ways of thinking. I will then support you in finding ways to reconcile your difficulties,  express your feelings and make changes in your life where appropriate.

Each session is tailored to your needs and what you find is most helpful.

Supporting Girls. Supporting Women. Supporting Mothers.

The Sense Project is an inclusive space so whilst my works focuses on the experiences of womxn.  I also work with anyone who feels that they could benefit from a safe and supportive relationship in which to explore their feelings, difficulties and lives.

If you are interested in finding out more, have any questions, or feel now is the time to embark on a therapeutic journey, please do get in touch and I will be happy to walk alongside you on your journey.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
