About me

Hello, I'm Tara, I appreciate how important a decision finding a counsellor can be, so I want to thank you for considering me and let you know a bit about me. I approach sessions with warmth, inclusivity, and empathy. I strive to create a safe, nurturing space where you can feel truly heard and understood. I understand that everyone's journey is unique, and I am here to support you collaboratively, without judgment.

I have experience working with various concerns such as anxiety, depression, relationship issues, self-esteem, trauma, and more. I aim to be compassionate and respectful of your process.

How Counselling can help

Drawing from my own personal experiences, I believe in the power of therapy as a tool that can help in developing stronger self-awareness, self-acceptance, and assist you in achieving your goals.

I hope to create an environment where you feel safe to share with me whatever you would like to. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship can facilitate healing from past traumas, challenge coping mechanisms that may no longer be helpful, and offer a sometimes much needed space that is just yours.

Counselling with me

I know it can be daunting to choose a counsellor and to begin therapy, especially if things are feeling difficult in your life. I offer a free 15 minute telephone consultation before we get started so you can see if you feel comfortable with me. There will be a further chance for you to see how I work in the first 50 minute session.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • I am a fully qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist with a Master’s degree from the University of the West of England with distinction.
  • I also have a Level 4 Certificate in Counselling from the University of the West of England.

How I work

I am trained in many modalities of Counselling and Psychotherapy and can tailor the therapy to suit your needs. We may look at how your early relationships, especially with caregivers, and also how your previous life experiences can affect your behavioural and relationship patterns today. If you feel it would be beneficial, we can also look at the role of the body in connecting to emotions. Sometimes the body can communicate to us how we feel, especially if words are hard to access. We could also use creative techniques if this appeals to you. We can do this all at your pace and I will follow your lead with strong empathy, genuineness and compassion for you. I believe we are equals, and I am committed to maintaining this respect throughout our journey together.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
