About me

Hello, are you feeling sad or low, experiencing anxiety or stress and struggling to cope?  Are you looking for someone highly experienced and professional - a safe pair of hands to guide you through these difficulties?  I'm a  chartered clinical psychologist and an accredited therapist with over a quarter of a century of experience working in adult mental health services. I have expertise in treating a range of common mental health difficulties in adults aged 18 and over.  I can help with difficulties such as:

  • anxiety
  • panic attacks
  • generalised anxiety (worry)
  • phobias
  • health anxiety
  • social anxiety/ shyness
  • post traumatic stress (PTSD)
  • OCD and hoarding
  • low mood and depression,
  • work-related stress
  • eating disorders
  • low self esteem, shame and self criticism
  • perfectionism
  • anger management
  • relationship problems
  • adjustment problems following life changes
  • suicide bereavement
  • insomnia

I have a  compassionate, understanding and collaborative approach.  I offer a range of therapies that I interweave to most helpfully meet your needs.  These include:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy
  • Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

I understand that seeking therapist is a big step to take  -  I have supported many others on their journey to recovery and I look forward to helping you too.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a quarter of a century working in NHS mental health services.  I qualified as a clinical psychologist with a Masters degree in 1989.  Since then I have invested heavily in my continuing professional development and have gained a doctorate in clinical psychology, a postgraduate diploma in psychological research methods and a postgraduate diploma in cognitive behavioural psychotherapy. I trained in EMDR in 2011 and find it a powerful and effective therapy for addressing traumatic experiences. I have always specialised in the field of adult mental health and worked in a range of adult mental health services within the NHS.  I specialised over a period of 13 years in occupational health psychology.  I have attended additional trainings in compassion focused therapy and  in acceptance and commitment therapy and dialectical behavioural therapy.
