About me

We may hear ourselves saying we are ‘fine’ when more the opposite is true. The pressures of life can take us away from ourselves or a part of us may get buried in order to keep going. The pace of life can be fast and overwhelming with very little time for reflection. Asking for help can feel impossible.

We all need to ask for help at difficult times in our lives no matter how strong we can be or are perceived to be. There is strength in asking for help and admitting to ourselves that it is time to try something different. No matter how well equipped we might feel, sometimes there are struggles and challenges where the resources we have may not be helping.

Sometimes having a space to talk to someone not part of our everyday life can help us to slow down and gain a deeper perspective.

I offer a supportive, kind and confidential space to look at what is getting in the way of living more fully and feeling more fulfilled. I can support you in looking at the questions which have brought you to seek therapy. Our work will focus on supporting you to make meaning and sustainable changes.

Training, qualifications & experience

For over 20 years I have worked with loss and trauma in a wide range of settings and diverse communities with people of all ages, including children and elders. After completing teacher training, I worked as a teacher in a young offender’s institute, opening up more to empathy and compassion in how our experiences in early life and opportunities or lack of them can influence the course of our lives.

I started working therapeutically with children and young people from refugee and asylum-seeking communities in Greater Manchester in 2005. In 2006 I completed the Foundation in Cross Cultural Multi-Systemic Family Therapy which led on to extensively researching and training in therapeutic modalities to support my work. At that time, the focus was on use of play, metaphor, storytelling and creative means to help children and young people explore and make sense of their inner world and distressing experiences in a safe way.

For the past 8 years, I have worked as a counsellor and psychotherapist in various settings including as a Senior Therapist at Women’s Counselling and Psychotherapy in Leeds offering long term psychotherapy for women from marginalised communities. For many years I worked within a palliative care setting, with patients - offering end of life counselling, counselling for relatives, as well as working with all types of bereavement and grief with individuals and groups.

I am a qualified Integrative Psychotherapist, having gained a Post Graduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from The University of Manchester. I find an integrative approach is flexible and adaptive for tailoring different therapeutic tools and insights to individual need. I support people to develop their own toolkits and resources to use and benefit from long after therapy sessions end.

Most recently I have completed a year long training in Wild Therapy with Jayne Johnson and Leonie Guest which enhances my practice and support for clients who prefer to work outdoors.

Integral to my practice: creativity, somatic awareness, mindfulness and focusing, practices for aligning with true self and purpose.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
