About me
Hi, I'm Shauna and I've developed Bristol Counselling Outdoors, for adults and young people (16+) who feel talking in a natural space (private woodland) could be helpful. For more information please see the video at the end.
It's often difficult to appreciate our uniqueness. Our life experience can cause us pain and complicate how we feel about ourselves, other people and life in general. It can also create punishing expectations. I remain open to hearing what is important to you and I won’t make judgements or assumptions. I also believe that given the right circumstances, everyone has the capacity to feel more content and fulfilled in their lives.
My counselling approach is underpinned by the Person-centred values of empathy, acceptance and authenticity. I use Mindfulness, draw on Buddhist Psychology and enjoy working creatively. My counselling work outdoors has been influenced by Martin Jordan and Nick Totton and my personal experience of nature mediation. I feel very positive about the impact that counselling can have and I'm passionate about making it accessible and inclusive.
I am especially interested and experienced in work around:
- Loss and Bereavement;
- Work Related Stress;
- Perfectionism and Self-Criticism;
- Bullying, Discrimination and Harassment:
- Change, Uncertainty and Transitions
- Existential Crisis and Spirituality
I also have lots of experience working with:
- Depression and Low Mood
- Stress and Anxiety
- Confidence and Self-worth
- Relationship issues
I have over 20 years experience of offering counselling and counselling training in many different settings, including health centres, mental health charities, local authority employee assistance and student counselling services. I have 18 years of offering counselling supervision.
You may feel you need some short or longer term counselling. We can discuss this in your first appointment.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold the following relevant qualifications:
- Certificate in Counselling Supervision
- PG Diploma in Integrative Counselling at the University of Bristol
- Foundation in Health Promotion
- Foundation in Dance Movement Therapy
- BSc Hons Sociology and Applied Social Studies ( including a CQSW with a focus on community development)
I have practiced meditation since 2007 and regularly attend various retreats in Buddhist and secular traditions, indoors and in nature.
Accredited counsellor of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy since 2011. This informs my commitment to ethical practice and ongoing training and professional development.
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information
I offer a free 15 min phone call to us to have a conversation about what support you require. I then offer an initial session (usually via Zoom) for us to look at working together. As this is an important process and it usually takes an hour.
Weekly Counselling sessions and the initial session cost £45. Counselling Supervision and Consultative Supervision is £55 for a 60 minute session and £70 for a 90 minute session. Counselling sessions last 50 minutes at the Centre for Whole Health and 60 minutes in the woodland (this allows time to walk in and out of the woodland).
