About me

Are you feeling overwhelmed by self-doubt, people-pleasing, or thoughts of “I’m not good enough” or “I’m a burden”? Perhaps you have "imposter syndrome" and are constantly worrying what other people think of you, unable to switch off racing thoughts and stuck in patterns that leave you feeling anxious, tense and exhausted? Or you may be choosing partners who aren't emotionally available but think it's your fault and that you can change them?

If you would like to feel less anxious, improve negative thinking and move on from difficult childhood, family or romantic relationships, including narcissistic abuse, help is at hand. Working together, we will help you to start slowly feeling better, change unhelpful, repeating patterns of behaviour and move forward in your life.

I help adults and teenagers who are struggling with different aspects of their lives. I have a particular specialism and 10+ years experience working with anxiety (previously, as an Anxiety UK approved therapist), childhood trauma (EMDR therapy) and difficult mother-daughter relationships (with lived experience myself, I have helped hundreds of adult women to heal emotional wounds around their mothers). Please note I work with individuals only.

Using a combination of counselling and EMDR (learn more about this interesting therapy supported by the World Health Organisation here: https://emdrassociation.org.uk/discover-emdr/), anxious adults and teenagers can see improvements in negative, self-critical thoughts, low self-worth, always worrying about other people and repeating patterns of behaviour which may be holding you back from having the life and relationships you crave.

"Attending counselling can be a little scary but Sharon put me at ease straightaway. It wasn't always easy but it was so worthwhile. I feel I have more control over my life." MC, Client

If you are ready to change your life and start counselling, send me a message and let's begin with a free, 15-minute, no-obligation conversation to learn how I can help you. If I don't think I am the right person to help, I will let you know that too and suggest people who may be a better fit for you. Call me today on 07852 464345 and let's get started.

What will counselling be like?

When we work together, I use therapeutic approaches tailored to you, listening to your feedback to see what is helping (and what isn't!). And I have lots of experience helping people with poor prior experience of therapy.

Having been there myself, I know it can take courage to contact a counsellor. You may feel worried that you will be judged or wonder if your situation is 'serious' enough to warrant counselling. I listen carefully to understand how we can best support you.

I work with adults and young people over the age of 13, online across the UK or face-to-face, in person, appointments in a comfortable counselling environment in north London.

I have helped hundreds of people struggling with anxiety, low mood, bereavement or just not feeling good about themselves, to thrive.

My experience and skills

  • I have worked as an Anxiety UK-approved therapist, at Mind and Cambridge University.
  • I set up and ran a counselling service in a girls secondary school for 7 years.
  • Fully qualified in the NHS-approved EMDR trauma therapy.
  • A postgraduate qualification in working with young people.
  • Approved to see clients through Bupa and Aviva insurance (if you have a policy with one of these companies, please contact them directly and ask to work with me).

You've already made the first move by coming here. Why not call me today on 07852 464345 to set up a first session and change your life for the better?

What do people say about counselling with me?

Choosing a counsellor is a very personal decision. You need to feel at ease with the person you are going to see. Here are some of the things my clients have said about having counselling with me:

"Sharon is a warm, genuine and caring counsellor. She came across as very empathetic and understanding, yet would also challenge me when needed. Sharon helped me deal with my inner demons, fears, anxieties and low self-esteem." EW, Client

"I saw Sharon for depression and anxiety. I was nervous and not really sure what to expect. I was there seeking help for a problem that had been part of my life for over 20 years. However, Sharon's friendly and calm approach soon made me feel I was in safe hands." - ND, Client

"I have grown as a person since having counselling with Sharon and for that I am very grateful. I have recommended a friend to contact Sharon, since our sessions have finished, as I hold her in very high regard." EC, Client

"Starting counselling was the start of a real turning point in my life. Sharon provided a safe, comfortable environment. She was non-judgemental and gave me the space to explore my feelings." KS, Client

"Counselling with Sharon made a real positive difference to my Life and set me on the right path. I would just like to say many thanks for your help." MT, Client

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
