About me

Hello and a very warm welcome! My name is Sarah and I am a counsellor and psychotherapist based in the Highlands of Scotland. I offer face to face sessions to people over the age of 16 in Inverness, both during the day and in the evening. I also offer online and telephone sessions to people anywhere in the UK.

I don't believe in a cold and clinical approach when it comes to client work, which is how many people think counselling might feel! I bring my warmth and personality into sessions, as making people feel comfortable and safe is really important to me.

Reaching out for support takes a lot of courage, and sending that first email can feel like the toughest step! As someone who has received my own personal therapy, I really believe that knowledge is power, and the more I can help you to understand what is going on for you, the more control you will feel over your own life.

If you are facing challenges in your life, or are feeling a bit down and you're not sure why, I would so welcome a message from you. Counselling gives us a toolbox we can use to gain a better understanding of what’s causing the problems we are facing, and how we can move towards managing or resolving them.

My role is not to diagnose or cure you; I am here to work alongside you as we explore together what is keeping you from moving forward.

  • SVQ4 Social Services and Healthcare

I have experience of counselling in both NHS and educational settings, and have worked with adults of all ages with wide ranging issues including grief, anxiety and depression, family problems, physical and psychological abuse and stress. I also have extensive experience working within the adult health and social care sector.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

There are no set rules around the number if sessions I can offer you, it completely depends on what you want, and what you need. I am happy to see you for a single session, for short-term sessions or for longer term counselling. It is normal and helpful for counsellor and client to review this as we go along.

Meeting regularly is most beneficial, especially at the beginning of your counselling. This would usually mean on a weekly basis, but I am happy to review this depending on your needs; we could discuss a fortnightly option, or whatever is going to work best for you.

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
