About me

Hi I'm Sarah-Jane. I currently offer one to one counselling for adults (18+) in person at Muswell Health, a multidisciplinary Therapy Centre in central Muswell Hill, North London N10 . I also offer sessions on line.  I work short and long term and have experience of working with a range of issues including anxiety, self-esteem, bereavement, intrusive thoughts, boarding school survivors, childhood trauma and difficulties in every-day relationships.

I am a relational integrative therapist. The relational part refers to the relationship between the client and therapist which is central to my way of working - I see therapy as a collaboration, a chance to grapple together on the things that you find difficult and the things that you would like to be different.  The integrative part means that depending on you and what you bring, I draw on different ways of understanding human experience to support our conversations. This may sometimes involve exploring links between your past and the present to help support new awareness.

Life can be really challenging.  Therapy provides the opportunity, in a confidential space, to talk through some of those challenges, to disentangle some of your thinking, to find space for some of your feelings. It can help you to reconnect with yourself as well as helping you to live differently and with purpose. I won’t give you a diagnosis but I will provide a safe and non judgemental space for us to explore what is going on for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Diploma in Integrative Counselling from The Minster Centre (BACP Accredited Training Course) and am at the end of a Masters in Integrative Psychotherapy (Middlesex University). My dissertation research, The Forgotten Ones, is on the lived experience of losing a sibling in adulthood.

As well as my private practice, I work as an integrative therapist at Trinity Laban, a music and dance college based in South London. I have been working with students there since 2019. I have also worked at Enfield and Barnet Mind’s Covid Bereavement Service and at MCPCS, the Minster Centre’s Psychotherapy and Counselling Service. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in theatre and community arts for 25 years.

I am a registered member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Therapy) and work in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
