About me

Hello and welcome my name is Sara. I am a fully qualified experienced counsellor registered with the BACP.  People generally come to me to reduce their stress and anxiety levels, fix problematic behaviours, explore relationships and improve their overall life satisfaction.

My way of working

I have received extensive training in mental health issues such as anxiety, trauma and low mood and due to training and lived experiences I can fully empathise with the impact it has on individuals everyday lives.

I provide talking therapy for you to explore difficult emotions, thoughts and experiences in a safe, non-judgmental environment.
These thoughts, feelings and emotions might be related to the here and now or maybe related to your upbringing and previous relationships?  No matter what  it is you are struggling with we can work through it together at your own pace.

I am also fully trained to incorporate CBT tools if needed, this is called integrative counselling.

Occasionally, I work this way with individuals because sometimes the root cause of our problems might be unknown, but by working in an integrative way which involves talking therapy, and CBT we can work together to find the cause and explore this in depth.

Together this combination can be beneficial because it is an all round approach which not only provides you with the space to talk openly about difficult emotions and experiences, it also helps you to identify unhelpful thought patterns and understanding as to why you behave and think a certain way.

Training, qualifications & experience

My Experience

At present I work with renowned institutions and individuals on a one to one basis.  Previously, I spent a few years in the charity sector where I counselled men and women experiencing a host of mental health challenges including anxiety, depression, bereavement, trauma, abuse, PTSD, and relationship issues.

Prior to becoming a counselling therapist I spent 19 years working in the corporate sector; this background means that I am familiar with the demands of work, the dynamics of working relationships and the related stresses that can arise.

My Qualifications
Level 7 Applied Cognitive Behavioural Skills for Practice:

BSc (Honours) Counselling Psychology (BPS Accredited):

ABC Level 4 Diploma Therapeutic Counselling

CPAB Level 3 Certificate Counselling Skills

British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) certificate of proficiency

I also attend regular supervision and update my skills through continued personal development training and workshops.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
