About me

My name is Sara; I am a fully qualified counsellor and a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work with adults aged 18+.

My way of working

I am a trauma informed counsellor and work in an integrative way, this means that I am familiar with a range of concepts and theories, this enables me adapt my approach to the needs of the client. I have a non-judgmental attitude and ensure the sessions are strictly confidential.

I provide talking therapy for you to talk about anything that might be having an impact on your life and causing you distress, worry, discontent or sadness. It might be something that is happening in the here and now, or circumstances and experiences  from your past that you need to talk about in-depth to help you gain clarity and understanding. Together we will work through whatever brought you to therapy at a pace that feels comfortable and safe for you.

Additionally, if required, I am also fully trained to incorporate CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) tools for the client to use within and out of sessions; this form of therapy can assist in alleviating symptoms associated with anxiety, stress and depression. CBT tools are also helpful in identifying unhelpful behaviour’s such as avoidance, negative thought patterns and triggers that lead to unhealthy coping behaviours and low self-esteem.

I can also provide you with the tools to help with any distressing thoughts you might be experiencing, and relaxation techniques to help you stay grounded.

Areas I work with
I have worked with clients experiencing an extensive range of challenges in their lives. This is not an exhaustive list:

Anxiety
Depression
Low self esteem
Stress
Grief and bereavement
Work-related stress
Relationship issues

To ensure I am the right therapist for you, I provide an initial call to talk about what has prompted you to seek out therapy at this present time, and I will answer any questions or concerns you might have.
I will also let you know what you can expect from the therapy sessions and leave it with you to decide if you want to go ahead.

Training, qualifications & experience

My Experience

At present I work with organisations, and individuals, on a one to one basis providing face to face, telephone and online video counselling services.

Prior to working in private practice I worked in the charity sector where I counselled men and women from a broad range of backgrounds, experiencing a wide range of mental health challenges unique to them.

Before I became a counselling therapist I worked in the corporate sector; This background means that I am familiar with the demands of workplace environments, the dynamics and challenges of working relationships, and the related stresses that can arise.

My Qualifications:

Level 7 Applied Cognitive Behavioural Skills for Practice

BSc (Honours) Counselling Psychology (BPS Accredited)

ABC Level 4 Diploma Therapeutic Counselling

CPAB Level 3 Certificate Counselling Skills

Graduate Member British Psychological Society

British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) certificate of proficiency

I also attend regular supervision and update my skills through continued personal development training and workshops.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
