About me

Hello and welcome name is Sara. I am a fully qualified counsellor, supporting people with a wide range of issues including trauma, stress, grief. anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties and low self-esteem.

My way of working

I provide a safe space and work in an integrative way providing talking therapy for individuals to talk about anything that might be having an impact on their lives such as anxiety, worry, discontent, loss, sadness, and challenging life transitions.

Your reasons for seeking out therapy at this present time might be related to something that is happening in the here and now, or it could be that the root cause of your mental health struggles are from your past, or maybe you may want to gain clarity and understanding and explore your life struggles and experiences in depth.

Your past experiences may be traumatic and painful.  I have extensive knowledge and a deep understanding of how people are affected by trauma and how it impacts their lives.  I have worked with many individuals who have experienced many forms of trauma. I am fully trained and experienced to support you to process the impact it might have had upon you and how it impacts your relationships and other aspects of your life.

Along with talking therapy I can also combine  a more direct approach in the form of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy skills. Research has found that CBT can help you to keep a watchful eye on negative patterns of thinking, and it can also provide you with techniques to keep negative thoughts at bay.  It has also been suggested that it is a natural way of rewiring the brain.

Training, qualifications & experience

My Experience

At present I work with organisations and individuals on a one to one basis providing face to face, telephone and online therapy.

Prior to working in private practice I spent a few years in the charity sector where I counselled men and women experiencing a host of mental health challenges including anxiety, depression, low-self esteem, bereavement, trauma, abuse, PTSD, and relationship issues.

Prior to becoming a counselling therapist I spent 19 years working in the corporate sector; this background means that I am familiar with the demands of work, the dynamics of working relationships and the related stresses that can arise.

My Qualifications
Level 7 Applied Cognitive Behavioural Skills for Practice:

BSc (Honours) Counselling Psychology (BPS Accredited):

ABC Level 4 Diploma Therapeutic Counselling

CPAB Level 3 Certificate Counselling Skills

British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) certificate of proficiency

I also attend regular supervision and update my skills through continued personal development training and workshops.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
