About me

You may be feeling overwhelmed by life, anxiety or depression disrupting your wellbeing, making you feel less than acceptable to yourself and others.  Difficult experiences in the past may leave you feeling stuck and alone in the present. Traumatic events may have left you struggling to understand and process strong emotions and bodily sensations making it hard to be around other people and leaving you with a sense of loneliness and isolation.

I am a relationally trained Therapeutic Counsellor qualified to work with adults. I work in a person centred way to create a confidential, safe, supportive environment.  As an integrative therapist I use Psycho-dynamic principles to support and enable your understanding of how life's past experiences form and shape your way of relating to yourself and the world around you. My role in your journey is to travel alongside you as you move towards greater self-awareness and acceptance.  The journey of self-discovery is unique to each of us, a blend of exploring the painful things that happened as well as the good things that didn't, but which should have  and the combined consequences of both on you in the present.  Such understanding may create the potential of positive change and allow you to resolve difficulties and choose your own best way forward.

My primary face to face practice day is on Thursday and is based at the Reading Health Centre, 61 Castle Street, RG17SN. The nearest car park is the Broad Street Mall car park, 3/4 minutes' walk away.

I can offer either face to face or online sessions based from Chestnut Crescent, Shinfield, Berkshire, RG2  on Monday or Wednesday evenings and Saturday and Sunday mornings.

I offer online or phone therapy to adults located anywhere in the United Kingdom.

I am committed to continual professional development and passionately believe that everyone deserves to be seen, heard and supported.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

I offer an initial free phone meeting to explore your needs and  expectations of therapy. Together we will establish whether I am able to meet these for you, If we find that I'm not the right therapist for you I would endevour to refer you to another therapist able to support you.  You may not be sure exactly what it is that's troubling you or what to expect and that's okay too, my role is to offer you psycho-education to empower you to act in your own best interests moving forward.  Therapy is a collaborative journey of discovery and the therapeutic relationship is a dynamic and evolving experience, the aim being to assist you in deepening your self-awareness.

If after our call you choose to proceed we will arrange to meet for regular weekly 50 minute sessions. I can accomodate short, long term and open ended work and will typically review with you every 6/8 sessions to ensure my focus is on your aims and is oriented to meeting your needs.  Therapy is a voluntary open ended journey and we may in the future agree that you reduce to fortnightly or monthly supportive therapy sessions. This would be a collaborative decision between us.  My ethical duty of care to you requires me to consider your safety and well-being.

It is my belief that an ending session or series of sessions related to the length of therapy is an important aspect of the therapeutic journey allowing for reflection,  consolidation and closure.
