About me

Hi there, my name is Rick. I know that trying to find the right counsellor to work with can feel overwhelming, so here's a quick rundown about me to help you decide whether I'd be a good fit for you:

I am a qualified, BACP registered integrative therapist offering online counselling and psychotherapy to individual adults.

I have experience supporting people with a wide range of issues, including: anxiety, depression, relationships, gender & sexuality, stress, trauma, and feeling stuck or lost.

I welcome clients from all backgrounds. I specialise in working with Gender, Sexuality, and Relationship Diversity (GSRD), supporting people who are LGBTQIA+ and/or have diverse relationship styles. I am neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed, sex-positive, and kink-knowledgable. None of these things are requirements for working with me, but my experience is there if you need it.

I am queer, bisexual, white, nonbinary, atheist, and am invisibly disabled. I share this in case your therapist’s identities are important to you. Outside of my work I enjoy gaming, painting miniatures, heavy music, and love a good cup of tea or coffee.

Whatever the reason you are seeking counselling or psychotherapy for, I will not judge you. I will treat you as an individual and will work to create a professional, secure, warm, and informed environment to support you to explore and navigate any issues you wish to bring.

If you have any questions please feel free to get in touch, I will be happy to help! I offer a free introduction appointment if you would to like meet me and discuss how I may be able to support you.

My Approach

I am trained in an integrative approach to psychotherapeutic counselling. This means that I have studied a range of different types of counselling and may draw from these to work with you in the way that best suits your needs.

The core of my approach is person-centred. This means I am non-judgemental, accepting and believe that you are the person who knows yourself best, even if you may currently feel lost or stuck in life. I will not tell you what to do, instead, I believe in empowering and supporting you to navigate your situation and reach towards an outcome which is authentic and healing for you.

I am not a ‘blank slate’ in my practice. I believe the quality of the connection between clients and their therapist is crucial to effective work. Therefore, you will experience me as a genuine person.

I listen attentively, I may ask challenging questions and the process will likely involve some discomfort as we confront difficult material, but supporting your wellbeing is always at the forefront of my practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
