About me

I'm Dr. Rachel Tyler and I am a Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). I have over 10 years of experience working across a range of NHS settings, supporting individuals and families with various aspects of their physical and emotional well-being. Whilst I work with both children and adults in my private practice, I am particularly experienced in child and adolescent mental health, having worked in CAMHS for a number of years. Within this field, I am especially skilled and interested in providing support to parents, as well as children and adolescents experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, neurodiversity and gender identity concerns.

In addition, I also have extensive experience working in paediatric services and have recently been involved in setting up a new service targeted at meeting the needs of young people with persistent physical health concerns who often "fall in the gap" between other currently commissioned specialties.

Working with people with long term health conditions is a particular area of interest and expertise. The relationship between physical and mental health is something I feel strongly about and I strive to provide a service that recognises the emotional and psychological impact that managing a long-term health condition can have on daily life. In addition to my paediatric experience, I have also worked in adult settings and have supported people with conditions such as (but not limited to) Crohn's disease, Ulcerative Colitis, PKU, Chronic Fatigue, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), neurological disorders such as Parkinson's Disease and Huntington's Disease, Chronic Pain and ‘functional’ or ‘medically unexplained’ symptoms (including FND, non-epileptic seizures & chronic migraine).

I currently support both adults and young people and am also able to work with couples and family groups. In order to achieve a personalised therapy experience, I work from an integrative approach. This means I draw upon a range of therapeutic models dependent upon which approach best fits with your experiences. Models that I regularly use within my work include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).

For many, seeking support is a big step. Whether it be for yourself, a loved one, or a friend, asking for help or guidance often takes immense courage. As a qualified Clinical Psychologist, I am privileged to be able to listen to people's stories and share in their experiences. Through building a relationship based on trust and understanding, my aim is to help people to find a way forward. How we achieve this together will look different for each individual person, couple or family. What is shared, however, is that I will ensure you are listened to, understood and that our work together is meaningful to you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a Clinical Psychologist and I hold a Doctoral qualification in Clinical Psychology and have over 10 years of clinical experience using a range of approaches including, but not limited to, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT).

I am a full member of the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC). I am also an Intermediate Certified Systemic Psychotherapist with the Association of Family Therapists (AFT).
