About me

About me and my practice

Hello, I am Rachel, a person centred counsellor supporting children, young people and adults.

I work mainly from a person centred approach but draw on lots of different methods, particularly creative ones. We may use art or nature in our sessions to help you to express yourself creatively.

I am a great lover of the outdoors, nature and animals and believe these can often be a part of our healing. As an alternative, I also offer walk and talk sessions where we will use the outdoors as part of the therapy. There are many benefits to working outdoors and clients can often find it less intense than traditional forms of counselling.

I will work collaboratively with you and together we will create a warm and safe place for you to explore what’s been going on for you. My approach is non-judgemental and I work in a kind and understanding way, led by you the client.

It may be that you have something specific that you wish to bring to counselling or you may just need a safe place to start to untangle your thoughts and feelings. Each session will be tailored to you and your individual needs.

How it works

Initially I offer a free 15 minute telephone conversation so we can explore what it is you are looking for and if I am the right counsellor for you. We will discuss what type of counselling you would like and arrange a date and time for our first session. I can also answer any questions you may have.

Usually clients have around 6 sessions and then we will review together how the counselling is going and how you feel it is progressing. We can explore if more sessions are needed or if you feel ready to end. We will continue to review at regular intervals.

Sessions are usually weekly or fortnightly depending on what suits you best.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Diploma in Person Centred Counselling and I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, holding their Certificate of Proficiency.

I have worked as counsellor in schools since qualifying including individual long term and short term therapy as well as group work.

I have done a lot of work with Bradford Bereavement Services and have a wealth of experience in this area. I also work with loss, relationships, abuse, anxiety, stress and depression.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
