About me

In my practice I support people with with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, work stress, bereavement, difficulties in childhood, self-esteem and trauma.

I am trained in Transactional Analysis psychotherapy, which supports me to understand how life experiences shape our personalities, our self-image and our relationship styles. Exploring these patterns in therapy can help to bring more flexibility in future.

Therapy can be a wonderful resource to help you work through difficult times - providing a supportive relationship for you to talk through the challenges you face. My approach to support you includes:

Exploration

When life feels unmanageable, therapy can lighten the burden by having a supportive figure to speak to.

When we feel ‘stuck’, therapy can help you to zoom out and look at the big picture of your life. This can help to reconnect with what’s most important  - we can assess what’s working, what isn’t working and what you might like to change.

Life history

Our unique life experiences have a huge impact on how we think and feel about ourselves. Our histories also influence how we respond to different events, people and situations.

We are often drawn to familiar experiences, even if they are detrimental to our well-being.

Many people find themselves in similar situations in life over and over again, particularly in relationships, and then wonder ‘how did I end up here again?’

Building a clearer awareness of your life history, and how it impacts you in the present, can help you to avoid repeating any unhelpful patterns.

Therapy can help you to separate the past from the present, move through life with greater clarity and find new, healthier patterns.

Relationships

Troubled relationships are one of the most common reasons people seek therapy. When it comes to our most important relationships, it can be hard to find the right time, place or person to talk to about our difficulties.

The counselling relationship is the perfect place to offload your tension and be fully listened to.

You can also take a step back from your day-to-day life and reflect on your relationship patterns, which can help you to develop healthier connections with the important people in your life.

My style

I work in a relational way, which means that reflecting on relationship histories and patterns is central to the work.

My style is active and engaged. I will give you the space to tell your story, explore and be listened to. I am also open, direct and aim to keep sessions focused on a mutually agreed goal.

I am a fully qualified and registered Psychotherapeutic Counsellor (MBACP). I have also completed training in humanistic counselling and regularly attend CPD training for specialisms, such as trauma, substance misuse & addiction, anxiety & depression, food & disordered eating and many more.

I work on both a short and long-term basis, and offer therapy both online and in person in my therapy room in Hove, UK. Please feel free to contact me to organise an initial conversation over the phone. This would last around 10-15 minutes, and would be free of charge.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
