About me

Hi I'm Nat,

Most people describe me as easy going, open, friendly, and say that my calm nature is contagious. I approach life with open-mindedness, and very much enjoy challenging "the norm".

More than anything, people tell me that saying things out-loud and sharing what they've bottled up inside makes them feel lighter and helps unravel the mental chaos. So whether you're overwhelmed by your feelings, struggling with traumatic life events, or trying to make sense of your world, my priority is to make sharing things as comfortable as possible. In my experience, knowing that you’re speaking with a genuine human being is a huge part of this, so if you choose counselling with me, I hope you'll find me professional, but authentic and relatable, not just a blank slate.

What to expect:

In our sessions, we'll explore your concerns, try to understand things better, and see if we can find a way to help you feel less burdened.  This can involve practicing acceptance, looking for insight, taking a fresh perspective, processing hard emotions and memories, identifying unproductive thought processes, or simply letting things out and decompressing.

Because everyone's different, I find sessions differ from person to person, so always approach counselling as a collaboration/exploration rather than a 'treatment'. I'll sometimes ask questions, share my knowledge, offer observations, or make a suggestion, but won't patronise you or pressure you into anything that doesn't feel right.

I can't promise I've got all the answers, but can promise you'll always get my full attention and that I genuinely care. I'll always meet you where you're at, and accept you how you are, whether you need to laugh, cry, swear, or just have a moan.

I value straightforward discussion rather than cold analysis or textbook exercises, and will always be transparent. You won't be judged or dismissed, and we'll always take things at your pace

I also offer walk & talk counselling for people who enjoy being outdoors or find the traditional therapy setting a bit too intense.

Relationship Therapy:

If you and your partner/friend/family member want to communicate better, build connection, or tackle a resentment, having an impartial person present can give a fresh perspective, stop arguments escalating, and offer the safety to promote honest conversations. In relationship therapy, my goal is to create change through building understanding and empathy towards each other.

Training, qualifications & experience

Qualifications:

  • MSc Counselling & Psychotherapy (Distinction) - Keele University
  • Graduate Certificate in Counselling - Keele University
  • Certificate in Couples Counselling
  • Certificate in Online Counselling

Specialisms:

I work with general difficulties such as anxiety, depression, loss and self-esteem.

I also have specific experience helping people navigate the impacts of trauma and abuse; impacts that include severe anxiety/depression, isolation, suicidal feelings, and self-defeating thoughts.  Although these experiences leave a huge mark on our lives, I've seen how counselling can create a more positive outlook.

A big passion of mine is working with people who feel stigmatised, repressed, or alienated by the pressures and judgment of society. In a world full of rigid labels and black & white views, we often mask or hide parts of ourselves to fit in, which can be suffocating and demoralising. This is why I want to offer a supportive place where you can be completely yourself.  I can't change the world, but can provide a small haven of acceptance where you can talk freely.

As such, I very much welcome conversations around gender, sexuality, relationship diversity, neurodiversity, and unconventional life choices.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
