About me

Hey there, I’m really glad you found your way here.

My name is Mike. I'm a Counsellor offering face-to-face therapy in Lancaster and Morecambe, as well as online counselling to those further afield.

Whether you’re seeking support, relief, empowerment or self-exploration, together we can work towards positive change in your life - however that may look for you. I offer an affordable, flexible service that works at your pace and on your terms.

It can take an awful lot to recognise we need help, let alone ask for it. I’d like to make this as easy as possible for you, meeting you with care, respect and compassion. I make no assumptions about what you may need or what may be good for you at this point in your life. What I offer is a space in which that can be explored… a space to be heard, to be safe and to be valued.

I hold a deep appreciation for us as individuals, the impact we have on one another and the complexity of what it can mean to be you.

Perhaps you’ve found yourself in a place of loss, anxiety or isolation. Maybe you’re feeling disconnected, dissatisfied, or struggling in a relationship that isn’t what you need it to be. Whatever you’re dealing with right now, however low or however hopeless you feel - know you have my support.

I know first hand how cruel life can feel and how hard it can be to live life as we wish to. Let’s get you where you’d like to be.

It’s important you find a counsellor that feels right for you - please don’t hesitate to reach out if you think that might be me.

For client testimony or more information about me and my practice, please see below, visit my website or get in touch.

I welcome any and all enquiries.

Training, qualifications & experience

Stress; Depression; Anxiety; Bereavement; Abuse; Addictions; Disability; Trauma; Agoraphobia; Body Dysmorphia & Gender Dysphoria.

I’ve also attended further training for working with Couples & Relationships, Dissociative Identity Disorders, Distress, Suicide and Self-Harm.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Client Testimony:

''I've seen several therapists over three decades and Mike has been the first to make me feel better about myself. His insightfulness, patience, compassion and humour have helped me counter negative outlooks that I'd assumed were there for good.'' - D

“I was very nervous about starting therapy. Mike’s friendly face and nature immediately made me feel welcome and able to open up. He’s makes me feel so understood and listened to, regardless of how small the problem may seem, which feels so important. It really seems like my life is that bit brighter with Mike in it.” - S

"I've met my share of well-intentioned counsellors who didn't manage to connect with me. By sheer luck, I met Mike. I was blown away by how genuine he is - honest and incredibly empathic. He truly wants to understand you as you are right now, and help.” - I

"My counselling with Mike has been an overwhelmingly positive experience. Thanks to his warmth, intelligence and compassion, I have found a safe space to explore and manage my mental health issues, that I have never previously felt capable of addressing. I would give him my wholehearted recommendation." - M

“I take a great deal away from our meetings and genuinely feel I have grown stronger over the months of meeting with Mike. This is all down to us working together on everything, and not just someone telling you how to sort out your problems.” - L

“Counselling hasn’t changed the world, but it has changed my way of dealing with difficult situations and how to prioritise what is important and what I can do to make my life a little easier to cope with.” - G
