About me

‘If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got’…

In today's fast-paced world, there are many challenges to face and deal with. Our mental and emotional wellbeing, like physical health, can become unwell. As a result, personal or professional relationships with others may become difficult to manage. Maybe you struggle with anxiety, depression, isolation, feeling overwhelmed, or finding the stresses and strains of daily life too much. This may be negatively impacting relationships in your life or keeping you up at night. Perhaps you experienced a traumatic life event that you are struggling to deal with or a past event that affects your emotional wellbeing at present.

Issues frequently arise in the wider context of other difficulties, for a variety of reasons, and you may find it hard to understand why you are unable to resolve them alone. A variety of concerns, including infidelity, trust, sex and intimacy, parental styles, and the dynamic of managing home, family, and professional life, exacerbate the sense of 'stuckness’, trapping you in a cycle of negative communication with little resolution. Regardless of your relationship status or sexual orientation, you may be considering the future of your relationship or struggling with your new reality after a separation or divorce. You don’t have to be in a relationship for counselling to be beneficial.

If any or all of these resonate with you, counselling can provide you with new perspectives to look at things differently and the tools you need to begin making sense of your feelings and create a positive change in your life.

The path is not always straight, perfect, or even in the ‘right direction'. Our paths are filled with missteps, lessons to learn and suffering. As human beings, we are complex creatures, and there is ‘no one-size-fits-all’ therapy.  As a therapist, I see the benefits of therapy every day. I provide a safe, inclusive, and non-judgmental space in which you can explore challenging thoughts, difficult emotions, or troubling behaviours while exploring different perspectives and alternative strategies to help you get back on track. I offer a therapeutic relationship in which you can try new things, make your own choices and decisions, and come away feeling better.

I have experience working with children, young people, and adults presenting with a wide range of issues, including depression, anxiety, relationship problems, low self-esteem, self-harm, trauma, abuse, PTSD, grief, and bereavement. I offer face-to-face and online therapy for adults, children, and young people.

As a student counsellor in MA Relationship Studies, I also offer reduced rates of face-to-face therapy sessions for couples and families facing relationship struggles or experiencing various emotional or personal difficulties.

Sessions are available daytime and evenings. Each session lasts an hour, and we would agree on the number of sessions. Therapy can be short-term or 'solution-focused’ to help you through a specific issue or longer-term to address unresolved issues from the past.

I understand that some may feel nervous about what to expect. Asking for help and support and choosing the right counsellor who can best meet your needs may feel daunting.  If you have any initial questions before arranging an appointment or if you would like to talk about how I might help, please contact me for a free informal chat.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified integrative counsellor and psychotherapist. I have experience working with children and young people at a local school trust, as well as working with adults, children, and young people for a number of 3rd sector organisations and charities.

My practice as an integrative counsellor is underpinned by Systemic and Family Therapy but the way we work together may be adapted to fit your individual needs and can incorporate a collaboration of Psychodynamic, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Transactional Analysis and Attachment Theory approaches.

I am committed to continually developing through my professional experience and training. I am currently in the last stages of completing my MA in Relationship Studies as well as becoming a Certified Complex Trauma Practitioner.

For the past 20 months, I have worked as a Counselling and Therapy Lead at Nottinghamshire Mind where I oversee a counselling service, that includes working with a variety of mental health issues with adult clients.

I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), a member of the AFT (Association for Family Therapy and Systemic Practice), and a student member of COSRT (College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists).

  • I have an enhanced DBS certificate and professional and public liability insurance.
  • Certified Complex Trauma Practitioner Course (2022-present) - Complex Trauma Institute, York

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
