About me

Do you want to feel less anxious, less depressed and more able to cope with life?  Would you like to develop more self confidence or to feel less overwhelmed?

Do you want to feel able to do what feels right for you and not just what you feel others expect you to do?  Do you want to feel less stuck or emotionally numb and trapped in cycles of unhelpful thoughts and behaviours?

Are you wanting to process significant changes in your life that are troubling you such as bereavements, health conditions or in your relationships, identity or work life?

Do experiences in your earlier life feel unprocessed and over shadow your ability to live in the present moment?

As a qualified counsellor drawing on both the person-centred and cognitive behavioural approaches to therapy, I am able to provide a confidential, understanding, non judgemental, caring but professional relationship within which you can unravel your concerns and feelings.

The counselling service I offer gives you the opportunity to talk freely, without the need to filter your views and experiences, to gain the self awareness required to make changes in your life.

Just putting your thoughts and feelings into words, in a setting where you are understood and not judged, may be enough to enable you to gain the clarity or acceptance you need to "move on" and feel better in yourself. However, if you want to work in a more structured way to tackle anxiety or low moods in particular, I am able to incorporate the use of theory and skills from the cognitive behavioural approach to counselling into our work together.

This approach supports you to identify the relationship between your feelings, thoughts, behaviours and the influence of any rules, assumptions or beliefs you may have adopted that are unhelpful.

Working using cognitive behavioural theory and techniques both within and outside of sessions supports a growing self awareness and understanding of what may be causing and maintaining your concerns. The approach is also empowering as it offers you a way of challenging and making changes to your thoughts, behaviours and belief systems to enable you to work towards the changes you are seeking.

My overall aim as a counsellor, is to offer you the counselling approach, session frequency and duration of service that is shaped by your goals and needs. With an awareness that committing to funding a counselling service can be challenging in the current economic climate, regular reviews are always incorporated into my practice to ensure we remain focused on the outcomes you are wanting to achieve and your experience of the service.

Thanks for taking the time to read my profile. Please contact me for a free initial, no obligation, discussion to support you further in finding the counsellor you would like to work with 🦋

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
