About me

Hi, My name is Marc Whittaker, and I am a Mindfulness based, integrative Counsellor/ Psychotherapist.

One thing I have learnt above all, is that we are all unique. With this richness of diversity, also comes the uniqueness of our experiences. My role as a therapist is to work alongside you, creating a supported space, where we can explore together at a pace that feels safe. I will help you cultivate a new way to look at what you are experiencing, whether it is anxiety or hypervigilance, depression, dissociation, intrusive thoughts, low self-esteem, a sense of isolation, PTSD  or a combination of several.

Whatever difficulties you are experiencing that are stopping you moving forward, I would like the opportunity to work with you during this difficult time.

I hope that together we can create a trusting and non-judgmental space each week, which will enable you to build a greater sense of cohesion and internal balance, helping you manage stress, resolve issues related to trauma, heal from and navigate life transitions, relationships and build a new resilience and a way of working with whatever life throws at you.

Using a Mindfulness Based approach ( Not meditation ), encourages psychological flexibility and a curiosity in how you process situations, communicate issues, feelings, and emotions, which at the moment might be too difficult or distressing to express in words.

For more information about my Mindfulness Based integrative approach, interventions used and other resources please take a look at my website.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

Mindfulness & Therapy.

The integrative approach I use incorporates techniques and interventions from different modalities including MBET( Mindfulness Based Experiential Therapy) which enables greater reflective capacity, by building a new way to get to know your own unique observations and experiences, noticed in a greater mind ( thoughts) and body ( feelings) awareness and IFS(internal family systems) which works with identifying "parts" of you that have developed over time due to "life events" that whilst trying to help you, often instead, create a sense of not being able to function as you would like. Sensorimotor & Somatic interventions, promote a deeper understanding of that body/mind connection, helping you to learn how to better regulate emotions and ACT ( Acceptance and commitment Therapy) which helps you to find a workable way for you to follow your own targets and values in life, instead of becoming "stuck".

Working with a mindfulness approach as therapist, my aim is to help you steadily cultivate a greater ability to exist in the moment, to place attention where you want it to be focused and not where your thoughts dictate it goes. Create a better distance to thoughts and feelings, so as not to feel overwhelmed, enabling a greater capacity to work with difficult situations. Help you develop an ability to reflect on your own journey with greater clarity, moving away from just the narrative of events. To have the confidence and ability to work with feelings, experienced in the moment, helping you deepen your understanding of these feelings, and so develop a greater sense of context.

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions at all.
