About me
Hello, I’m Marc Whittaker, a Mindfulness-Based Psychotherapist. I take an integrative approach to therapy, with Mindfulness-Based Experiential Therapy (MBET) as my primary framework, drawing on a range of evidence-based modalities including Psychodynamic theory, somatic and emotion-focused therapies, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
Through my work, I have come to deeply appreciate the uniqueness of each individual. Our identities are shaped by a wide range of influences, resulting in rich and diverse lived experiences. As a therapist, my role is to work collaboratively with you, offering a safe, supportive space where we can explore your experiences at a pace that feels right for you.
Together, we can develop new ways of understanding and relating to what you may be facing—whether that includes anxiety, hypervigilance, depression, dissociation, intrusive thoughts, addiction-related challenges, or a combination of these experiences. My aim is to support you in building greater awareness, resilience, and a more compassionate relationship with yourself.
Choosing a therapist is an important decision. To support you in this process, I offer a free, no-obligation telephone or Zoom consultation. This provides an opportunity for us to introduce ourselves, discuss the difficulties you are currently experiencing, and for you to ask any questions you may have about my approach or therapy in general.
It is also an opportunity to get a sense of whether working together feels comfortable for you. A strong therapeutic relationship is at the heart of effective therapy, and we will take time to build a safe, respectful and collaborative space where you feel heard and understood. I aim to work at a pace that feels right for you, with openness and care guiding the process.
If you decide to proceed with therapy, the first session will involve gathering relevant background information. We will also work together to identify your goals for therapy, clarify desired outcomes, and begin developing a collaborative understanding of how these can be achieved through the therapeutic process.

I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Mindfulness & Therapy
A mindfulness-based approach to therapy helps you build a different relationship with your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Rather than being pulled automatically by what the mind produces, you learn to notice what is happening in the present moment with greater clarity and choice.
In practice, this means developing the ability to intentionally place your attention where it is most helpful, rather than where habitual thinking or emotional reactivity directs it. Over time, this creates a bit of space between you and your thoughts and feelings—so they can be observed and understood, rather than immediately acted upon or overwhelmed by.
This increased awareness supports you in working more effectively with difficult emotions and situations. Instead of getting caught in the story of what is happening, therapy helps you step back and also notice how you are experiencing it. This shift allows for deeper reflection, greater insight, and a clearer understanding of patterns in your life.
As this capacity grows, you become more confident in staying present with emotions as they arise, rather than avoiding or suppressing them. This can lead to a more grounded understanding of your inner experience and a stronger sense of perspective and context when facing challenges.
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions at all.
