About me

"I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become"
- Carl Jung

ABOUT ME: I am a fully qualified Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor - Registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) with their ethical framework surrounding all that I do.

I came to be a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor through my own therapeutic experience. I found myself in the client’s chair trying to make sense of my life and its difficulties. I personally experienced how transformative and empowering the therapeutic experience can be. An experience I wish, if at all possible, to share with others.

Having come to this work following several other professions, I feel that the thread that binds all my careers to date is my consistent attitude of connectivity and a compassionate attitude towards the people I have encountered along the way. I remain deeply committed to being as open, honest as possible and hope to continue to learn from, and grow with, my clients.

ABOUT YOU: Maybe you are wanting to understand yourself better? Looking for an opportunity to have a deeper knowledge of yourself and your behaviour? You might want more satisfaction in your career or be struggling with personal relationships? Seeking a professional relationship with someone that will allow space for talking about your problems and challenges and exploring these experiences together through deep conversation? We are all impacted by our life experiences but may not always have time, space, money or inclination to look deeper and make the changes required to live our best life.

If you are still reading this, you have already begun the process and I understand how frightening it may feel to take the next step towards change and commitment to yourself, which is why I encourage you to make contact for an informal conversation about how we could work together to address some of these things.

HOW I WORK: Working in an Integrative way (which basically means using various learning and theory to find the very best, tailor-made style of therapy for the individual) to facilitate change through reflection, investigation and sharing of thoughts and ideas of what obstacles and experiences may be interrupting a more harmonious life.

My intention is to demystify the psychotherapeutic world, taking an honest and open approach, plain speaking and no frills...so we always know where we stand throughout our working relationship.

Through the use of various collaborative measures, we will endeavour to co-create a different perspective on elements of your life that may be causing you worry and concern or making you feel stuck. Getting to know each other and forming a relationship together is an essential element of the work we will embark on.

Whether you want 1 session or 6 weeks to talk through something very specific or 12 weeks to focus on a particular issue such as bereavement or anxiety (counselling) or an open-ended commitment to work through difficult issues together looking at childhood, past experiences and old habits until such time we agree to end, I am able to accommodate your needs.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Additional information

INDIVIDUAL THERAPY - one to one
In one to one therapy sessions, we can work through challenges together. Looking at difficult feelings or behaviour, we will agree on your objective for our work and we will work towards you reaching some insights that may help you to “re-frame” your thoughts and reactions in order to find greater self awareness and balance in your internal and external world.

We will discuss your presenting issues and agree a time frame for our work.

£65 per session

COUPLES THERAPY - business or personal
Couples sessions can help clients to develop positive attitudes towards some of the complex and challenging circumstances that being in a relationship can bring.

Working alongside you with your romantic or business relationship to take a neutral role and help you find a position of communication and understanding.

Examples: mother/father & daughter/son, siblings, civil partnerships, marriages, friends - any 'couple' welcome.

£120 per session (2 people)

ONLINE - making connections
This relatively new form of connection between client and therapist can be very effective, although I do not feel it should replace face to face therapy where it is achievable, if mobility, time restrictions or anxiety prevent you from coming to meet with me, we can consider online sessions via the internet or Skype.

Please contact me to discuss your specific needs.

£65 per online session
