About me

I am an experienced and established counsellor based in Ashby de la Zouch, specialising in working with grief, loss, change and the emotional issues these can bring.

I have been on your side of the screen - feeling stuck and overwhelmed by it all, but wanting to be able to take back some level of control and get back on track with life. It can be really challenging to ask for help when things are troubling you and I understand how important it is to find the right person to talk to. I offer a free 15 minute phone call to find out about what is going on for you and, most importantly, for you to decide if you feel I am the right person to work with you. I can work flexibly and at your pace; a number of my clients want to work on a fortnightly basis and I can happily accommodate this.

Whilst I predominately work with grief, loss and change, I also have a wide range of experience in working with issues such as anxiety, depression, low self esteem and trauma. Life can be really challenging and the aim of counselling is to support you in moving towards where you want to be. My role is to be the supportive element in your exploration and processing of what is going on for you. Often clients find it refreshing to talk through what is going on for them with someone who is outside their family and friendship group - someone who can see it through their perspective without any judgement, advice or fixing. I can work alongside you to create that space to support you in finding a route that works for you. You are in safe hands, we will explore your issues at a pace that is set by you so you can move forward feeling clearer and lighter.

I ams a Person-centred counsellor and registered member of the BACP. What does all that mean? Well, I am trained in person centred counselling which means I work to ensure you are at the very heart of the process; offering you a safe, compassionate and honest relationship to really explore what is going on for you in order to find a sense of clarity and a way forward. I follow the ethical framework set out by the BACP to ensure I offer you the best professional practice I can. I am trauma informed, working with an understanding of the physical and mental impact that trauma can have. I understand that no experience is the same – as individual as those I support. I appreciate the importance of having someone there to really listen to, and understand, experiences that are traumatic and life changing.

My counselling background is very much set within grief, loss and trauma which can be felt in a wide range of contexts - from the loss of your sense of self, a job, relationship, health or a bereavement. Alongside this, I predominately work with anxiety that can feel overwhelming and bring a sense of feeling stuck.  I have worked to support individuals in recognising their discomfort with certain feelings, developing boundaries that are flexible and exploring or creating self-care measures that suit them to readdress the lack of balance in their lives.

So, if you are ready to make a change for the better, contact me now and let’s get started!

Training, qualifications & experience

I have volunteered and worked extensively within a Leicestershire cancer charity supporting all those impacted by a cancer diagnosis - from patients, family members, carers, friends and those who have been bereaved. Currently I am working alongside a national Pregnancy loss and trauma charity which is complimented by my experience of working with a broader client base within my own private practice, dealing with issues such as self-esteem, anxiety, depression and stress and trauma.

I have a CPCAB Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Person Centred) which I further developed with an additional Level 5 Diploma in working integratively with Children and Young People.

I value continuous professional development and my recent training has included:

1 year CPCAB Level 5 Diploma in Working with Children and Young People

Specialist training working with Miscarriage, Stillbirth and Neo-natal death

30 hours of Trauma Informed Training

Anxiety Disorders

Grief

Managing Risk

Anxiety and Stress

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have gained a huge amount of experience working within the cancer community. Working with individuals who have been impacted by cancer, from patients, family members, friends, carers and bereaved. I understand the huge repercussions of a cancer diagnosis and have worked with individuals to come to terms with the implications this has on their lives.

I also offer specialist experience of working with miscarriage (early, late and missed), stillbirth and neo-natal death.
