About me

Hello. My name is Lou and I am an Integrative Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor.

The foundation of my practice is Person-centred - I work with individuals and couples with their own unique experience, beliefs and values.

My passion and niche is helping people who are experiencing low self esteem, confidence and generalised anxiety through Relational Trauma or incident; and people experiencing difficulties with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Unwanted Intrusive Thoughts.

My aim is to build a therapeutic relationship based on mutual trust and respect. Encouraging and supporting expression of thoughts and feelings with the hope of enabling individuals to help themselves through gained insight and deeper connection to Self.

Taking time for yourself and entering into counselling takes a lot of courage, and whilst the initial steps may feel uncomfortable, I am here to support you.

With the focus of our work being on your unique and individual experience of your circumstances; how you're feeling, thinking and responding, and how we can work together to help you achieve your best possible self and/or clarity.

As an Integrative Counsellor, I use elements of several theoretical models.  Details of some favoured approaches can be found on my website.

Our work together is primarily to build a wealth of self awareness, so choices can be made with clarity; coping strategies to enable strength in challenging circumstances, with long term maintenance goals in mind. I also welcome you to practice self compassion; the same kindness you would offer to others.

I offer a free 20-30 minute initial phone call or Zoom so we can meet, you can get a feel for me and ask questions, so please do get in touch if you would like to know more.

And if sessions are agreed upon, face to face, as well as Zoom or Telephone, are available.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling - Exeter College
  • Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills and Theory - Exeter College
  • Level 2 Introduction to Counselling - Exeter College
  • Couples Counselling - The Counselling Academy

Between 2017 - 2020, I had the opportunity to work with a wide and varied selection of personal and emotional life transitions and challenges, volunteering for an organisation offering affordable counselling to those on low incomes.

Since 2019, I have successfully run my own Private Practice and continue to work privately with individuals based on their own unique emotional experiences and circumstances. I continue to attend regular and additional Continue Professional Development.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have a personal interest in helping people to overcome or manage Anxiety and Stress, and its impact on the emotional, thinking and physical body.

I also have experience of working with individuals with diagnosed mental health conditions. Although I do not work with the condition itself, I do work with the individual regarding underlying related issues, such as loneliness, marginalization, feelings of worthlessness, guilt and so on.
