About me

Taking the first step in finding a counsellor can feel overwhelming. The relationship between you and your counsellor forms the core of your counselling experience, so it is important that you choose someone who feels truly right for you and your needs.

To introduce myself, I am Lisa, a person-centred counsellor. I will offer you a safe space where I will listen carefully and support you to explore your difficulties and emotions, in confidence and in a non-judgmental way. I work with great care, compassion, and warmth, and I will focus on understanding and accepting you to support you in finding your way.

We can face challenging times in our lives, and there can be moments when these difficulties become so overwhelming that coping seems almost impossible. Counselling can give you the opportunity to work through the challenges you face by exploring your feelings at your own pace. Trying to make sense of these can help bring a deeper understanding of your life experiences and greater self-awareness.

By building a trusted and collaborative relationship together, you'll feel heard, accepted and understood to help you find clarity and make any changes or decisions that feel right. When we make decisions ourselves, they tend to have more meaning.

What happens next

Getting a sense of who I am from reading my profile alone can be difficult. Therefore, as a next step, please feel free to send me an email and we can arrange to have a chat before our first session. This will give you the chance to ask any questions and we can both start to get a sense as to how we can work best together. Your comfort, safety, and ability to speak freely are essential, so having a pre-session call is an important step to ensure the counselling process with me feels right for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

Experience

In addition to private practice, I volunteer for a local charitable counselling agency working with adults. I have worked with clients experiencing many different challenges, including anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, loss of self, relationship difficulties, childhood abuse, trauma, suicidal thoughts, bereavement, self-harm, work-related challenges, decision making and high stress occurring from pressurised environments.

Prior to training as a counsellor, I spent over 20 years working in a corporate environment. This experience has significantly enriched my ability as a counsellor to communicate and connect with people. It has also provided me with a deep understanding of the stresses associated with corporate life, including navigating diverse work cultures and managing complex internal politics.

Training and qualifications

I am a qualified counsellor in person-centred counselling, and I have a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). As part of my membership, I adhere to the professional guidelines and ethical framework of the BACP. I am committed to Continual Professional Development training in accordance with BACP guidelines.

I am a fully insured practitioner with full public liability insurance, and I am registered with the ICO (Information Commissioners Office) as a registered data controller. I hold an enhanced disclosure check with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
