About me
Hi, I am Lisa, a BACP accredited person-centred counsellor.
I offer a safe, supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and emotions in confidence and without judgement. I work with great care, compassion, and warmth, taking time to truly understand you. Together, we can begin to explore the underlying causes of the feelings you may be experiencing and help you find your way forward.
We can face challenging times in our lives, and there can be moments when these difficulties become so overwhelming that coping seems almost impossible. Counselling can offer you the opportunity to work through these difficulties at your own pace, helping you to make sense of your thoughts and feelings with greater clarity and self-awareness. Through this process, a deeper understanding of yourself and your life experiences can begin to emerge.
I work with clients experiencing anxiety, burnout and stress, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, trauma, loss, overwhelm, and life transitions. I also support clients who may be struggling with difficult emotions, feeling stuck, or finding it hard to cope with the pressures of everyday life.
I believe the therapeutic relationship is at the heart of counselling. By building a trusting and collaborative relationship together, you can feel heard, accepted, and understood, creating the space to make choices and changes that feel right for you. I aim to offer a space where you do not feel rushed, judged, or alone with what you are carrying. Decisions we arrive at ourselves often carry greater meaning and lasting value.
What happens next
Taking the first step in finding a counsellor can feel daunting, and it is important that you choose someone who feels right for you and your needs.
I understand that getting a sense of who I am through a profile alone can be difficult, so I offer an initial chat before a first session. This gives you the opportunity to ask any questions and helps us both begin to understand how we might work together. Feeling comfortable, safe, and able to speak freely is essential, and this initial contact can help you decide whether counselling with me feels right for you.
Training, qualifications & experience
Experience
I have worked with clients facing a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, childhood abuse, trauma, suicidal ideation, bereavement, self-harm, work-related stress, decision-making difficulties, and stress arising from high-pressure environments.
Prior to training as a counsellor, I worked in a corporate environment for over 25 years. This experience has significantly enriched my ability as a counsellor to communicate and connect with people. It has also provided me with a strong understanding of workplace pressures and organisational dynamics.
Training and qualifications
I am a qualified counsellor in person-centred counselling. I have a Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.
I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). As part of my membership, I adhere to the professional guidelines and ethical framework of the BACP. I am committed to Continual Professional Development training in accordance with BACP guidelines.
I am a fully insured practitioner with full public liability insurance, and I am registered with the ICO (Information Commissioner's Office) as a registered data controller. I hold an enhanced disclosure check with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
