About me
Currently full and not taking new clients until January 2025. Please email me if you would like to join my waiting list.
Hi, I’m Dr. Leanne Rimmer.
I am a ‘pracademic’ or practitioner-academic, meaning I split my time between working at a university (as a Senior Lecturer in Psychology) and working in the field (NHS Counsellor in a GP Practice, and private practice).
I understand that reaching out and engaging in therapeutic work can be daunting. You may be feeling vulnerable, disempowered, stuck, confused, apprehensive, or an overwhelming amalgamation of feelings that you’re struggling to understand/process. Whether it’s stress, mood, confidence, a life change/transition, or a general uncertainty, by sharing these difficulties we can explore your situation/circumstances at your pace.
"The formal part"
Actively teaching, researching, and delivering evidence-based practice in Psychology, Counselling and Psychotherapy provides me with a rich and insightful perspective that I draw upon to support clients. My approach is integrative, which means the therapeutic work is personalised, adaptable, and designed to suit the individual client. I combine (integrate) elements/tools/skills from a wide range of psychotherapeutic approaches, based on client needs and working style.
Clients deserve qualified, competent, and safe professionals to trust in sharing these personal and sensitive emotions, thoughts, and experiences. I am a Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and a qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor (MBACP) with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am also part of the Division of Coaching Psychology (BPS) and a BACP Coaching member. Through extensive training, qualifications and experience I demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the highest professional standards, and life-long learning in subject specialism and expertise, that I use to help and support clients.
Feel free to contact me here, or through my website. I offer appointments online/video via a (secure and encrypted) software management system, or face-to-face/in-person in my office based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. I look forward to hearing from you.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
