About me

I'm an American trained, dual citizen psychologist with over 20 years experience providing confidential, safe, and caring services informed by basic psychological science. I have recently retired from the NHS and now offer psychological consultations and therapy privately to adults in West London.

I work with clients collaboratively to develop a shared way of thinking about their problems and how they move can forward. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approaches are usually the most effective for anxiety and mild depression but they don't suit every person or every issue. I am trained in a number of other approaches including Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), emotion focused therapies, and schema focused treatments. My approach is integrative, eclectic and client focused.

Although happy to work with all kinds of common issues and problems, I have a special interest in trauma and PTSD, birth trauma, relationship problems, personality disorders and problems related to aversive or hurtful childhood experiences.

Training, qualifications & experience

MA & PH.D Clinical Psychology University of the State of NY (in the US this includes full doctoral course work, participation in research labs, participation in the university training clinic, dissertation, and a predoctoral full time year long structured training internship)

New York State License to Practice Psychology: to be granted a license, candidates must complete a PhD as above, pass a statewide licensing examination, and complete an approved postdoctoral year long training post.

HCPC registered clinical psychologist, Chartered as a practitioner and a scientist by the British Psychological Society of which I am now an Associate Fellow,

Completed full three part EMDR training.

Worked in numerous out patient and inpatient settings in New York and London. I have worked with adults, children, couples and families but in recent years have been working with adults primarily.

Maintain and grow skills and knowledge with vigorous CPD activities; including on going training through advanced workshops and supervision in CBT therapies, Schema Therapy, EMDR, Action and Commitment Therapy, and Compassion focused techniques.

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Further information

If you are thinking about starting therapy, please don't hesitate to email me. I will contact you to set up an initial brief phone assessment for which there is no charge. The phone session will give me a chance to learn a little more about you and the problems you would like to work on, and will give you a chance to ask any questions you might have. We will go on to set up a face to face session only if you decide you want to go ahead.

My website has a frequently asked questions section, further information about different kinds of therapy, and my own background and interests: www.leahwallachpsychologist.com. Please visit!
