About me

Life throws challenging situations at all of us, and we all deserve a listening ear and support. I'm Lauren Smith, and I'm here to be that listening ear and provide support tailored just for you.

My own life journey has had its share of twists and turns, and these experiences have shaped me into the counsellor I am today. I understand the complexities of life, from the ups and downs of fertility, motherhood, and the pursuit of genuine self-care.

In our sessions, you'll find more than a therapist; you'll find a fellow traveller on this winding road of life. I create a welcoming space for you to be your authentic self and share at your own pace. You're not alone in your journey; I'm right here with you.

Together, we'll create a safe environment where you can express even the most uncomfortable thoughts and emotions. I'll share with you my own experiences of embracing discomfort and growth, allowing you to feel more at ease in sharing your own challenges. We'll work together to facilitate a harmonious inner dialogue and give voice to those parts of yourself that may have long been silent or unheard.

I believe that personal connection and trust are at the core of effective therapy, and my goal is to build that connection with you. So, if you're looking for someone who understands, someone who's been there, and someone who genuinely cares, I'm here for you. Let's navigate this journey together.

Our therapeutic journey aims to help you tap into your inner resources for tackling life's problems and crises.

Through this process, you'll embark on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment.

As we address your current challenges, I hope to see your feelings of inner strength, confidence, and resilience flourish.

If you're facing difficulties, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. I'm here to work together with you to alleviate whatever you're struggling with.

I have openings on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for both online and in-person sessions. You don't have to be in Leeds to work with me; we can collaborate online from anywhere in the UK.

Training, qualifications & experience

In our therapeutic journey together, I draw upon my extensive qualifications and experience, including a Counseling Diploma from CPCAB and my work as a dedicated volunteer with organizations like MOSAIC (supporting survivors of sexual abuse) and Leeds Survivor Led Counselling Service.

My goal is to help you uncover your inner strength and resilience, equipping you with the resources to navigate life's challenges and embark on a transformative journey of self-discovery and empowerment.

Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of working with individuals facing a wide range of difficulties, including survivors of abuse, anxiety, relationship struggles, grief, depression, betrayal, eating disorders, health concerns, fertility issues, and even the deeply sensitive areas of suicidal thoughts, stress, trauma, self-harm, gender transitioning, and self-acceptance.

If you find yourself struggling with any of these challenges, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. I genuinely believe that, together, we can navigate these complexities and work towards alleviating the burdens you carry. Your well-being is my priority, and I'm here to support you on your unique path to healing and self-acceptance.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
