About me

Hi, my name is Kerrie, I am an experienced fully qualified Integrative counsellor with over 25 years experience working with people in a variety of roles. My experience extends to hundreds even thousands of hours working with clients to support them with the varied issues and challenges of life.

Such issues I have worked through with clients  include,  panic attacks, anxiety, depression, OCD, relationship issues, anger issues and trauma. I work with my clients to support their distress so that the person feels more able to cope within their day to day life.

Throughout my career as a counsellor I have worked to support people who may feel isolated, withdrawn, deeply sad, shamed or find that stress responses like fight, flight freeze and shutdown may be getting in the way of social interactions, relationships or work. There may be many reasons why people feel and respond in these ways but ultimately myself and the client work together to gain a deeper understanding of their process, to support their feelings and responses and hopefully bring the client to a place whereby they feel more regulated and more able to cope with the intricacies of life and relationship.

At the heart of my work, regardless of the issues lies the client, I respect the individuality of each client and offer compassion, kindness and respect. The relationship between myself and the client is an important part of the work. Through this relationship a deeper understanding of the clients concerns may be achieved.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified Integrative Counsellor (FD Degree in Integrative Counselling). I am also a registered member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). As a member of the BACP I fully adhere to it's standards and ethical codes.

I work using an integration of humanistic methods. A humanistic approach focuses on growth and development and encourages self-awareness whilst considering the influences of the past and present upon ongoing issues.

I integrate into my practice over 25 years experience of working with people in a variety of roles, roles which have required sensitivity, support and compassion, this being particularly pertinent when working with individuals impacted by rape and serious sexual assault.

I continue to develop my knowledge of counselling through a variety of courses, reading theoretical literature and through regular supervision. As required by the BACP my work is supervised by an experienced therapist as a way of providing insight, support, growth and challenge, thus ensuring my practice delivers the highest possible standards.

I am also currently undertaking a three year qualification to become a Somatic Practitioner.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
