About me

I am an experienced counsellor based in Calstock, Cornwall and Plymouth. I provide one-to-one counselling to help people find their way through at times of distress. I have worked with many issues such as depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, self injury, shame, guilt and relationship problems along with many other difficult emotional issues.

My aim is to offer you a safe, supportive, non-judgemental space where you can share your experiences in confidence and help make sense of whatever is causing you distress.

Counselling can help us gain an understanding of ourselves; how we behave and how our past experiences effect who we are today. Explaining our thoughts and feelings can help us understand our distress, gain empowerment, build confidence and help us deal with the challenges life throws at us.

For many people approaching counselling can cause feelings of anxiety but I truly believe that this new journey of exploration will bring a positive experience facilitating personal growth with endless possibilities for positive changes. My aim is to empower people with the confidence and skills they need to lead more happier and enriched lives.

Confidentiality

Whatever you bring to a session will be kept confidential. The only person I talk to about my work is my supervisor which is required under the BACP Ethical Framework. However, the identity of clients is kept totally confidential.

Training, qualifications & experience

Experience

I have gained a wide range of exerience working as a volunteer in The Zone, Plymouth with issues such as self esteem, self injury, relationships, sexuality, anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts.

I have worked for the past 8 years in Primary and Secondary schools and colleges in Plymouth and Bodmin offering counselling in a one-to-one setting with young people from the age of 6 to 18 years. I have also worked alongside families to help gain understanding of deeper issues such as working with children with anger, behavioural issues and attachment disorder.

I have experience of working with clients in a GP Practice who have diverse and challenging issues such as anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, bereavement and relationships problems.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
