About me

Hi, I’m Katie. I know that starting therapy can feel daunting, and finding the right person isn’t always easy. I hope this helps you to get a sense of who I am and what working together might feel like.

Personal therapy has been a meaningful part of my own life, and that experience shapes how I work. I understand how vulnerable it can feel to begin therapy, even when you’re ready for things to change. It can take time to feel comfortable, but there’s no rush. We will work at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

What I Offer

I offer one-to-one psychotherapy and counselling for adults aged 18 and over at my private practice in Bramhall, Stockport. Sessions are available face to face in a private garden office or online via Microsoft Teams.

I provide a nurturing, open, and honest space where you can talk about your experiences without judgment. I’ll meet you with warmth, compassion, and respect, and you can speak freely knowing that what you share will remain confidential. Together, we’ll find a way to make the changes that feel right for you.

Why Therapy?

People seek therapy for different reasons. You might be here because you have faced a significant event, or you may be struggling with anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, or depression. You might be feeling sad and disconnected from life, or perhaps you don’t even know exactly what’s troubling you - only that something just doesn’t feel right.

I support clients in the following areas:

  • People-pleasing & setting boundaries
  • Perfectionism, overthinking & challenge with uncertainty
  • Difficulties in understanding and expressing emotions
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Guilt & shame
  • Pregnancy, postpartum & parenting

Working with Parents and Caregivers

Alongside my general practice, I offer tailored therapy support to mums, dads, birth parents, and carers.

Parenting can bring love and joy, but also pressure and complex emotions like anxiety, guilt, anger, sadness, and a loss of identity that are often hidden for fear of judgment. These feelings are completely normal, but they don’t have to be an everyday struggle.

I help parents explore what’s underneath the pressure - from childhood experiences and internalised beliefs to society’s idea of the “perfect parent”. With greater awareness, you can begin to respond with self-compassion and find practical ways to care for yourself when things feel hard.

My Approach

I primarily use Transactional Analysis (TA), a talking therapy that explores how early experiences shape who we are today. By linking past and present patterns, TA helps increase self-awareness and supports lasting positive change.

I believe our collaborative relationship is central to therapy feeling safe, meaningful, and effective. I provide a nurturing, confidential, and honest space where you can talk about your experiences without judgment.

I take an active role in sessions, offering insights, reflections, and gentle challenges, while also allowing space and silence when needed. I won’t tell you what to do but will be alongside you as you make sense of your experiences.

How to Get Started

I offer a free 20-minute consultation by phone or online via Microsoft Teams or Zoom. This gives us a chance to meet, discuss what’s brought you to therapy, and decide whether we’d be a good fit to work together. You can ask any questions and take time to consider your next steps, there’s no obligation to continue.

About the Practice

My practice is based in a private garden office with separate access, located half a mile from Bramhall village centre, close to the Manchester Eastern Link Airport Road (SK7). It’s easily reached from Woodford, Hazel Grove, Cheadle Hulme, and Handforth, with good transport links and free street parking nearby.

Getting in Touch

If you like the sound of my approach, please get in touch to arrange your free consultation. I may not always be able to answer the phone straight away, but if you leave a message, I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. You’re also welcome to text, WhatsApp, or email, whatever feels easiest for you.

Career background:

After graduating with a degree in Textile Design, I began my career in buying and product development. Working in this industry was a great experience, but I realised the type of work just didn't fit with my personal values. A career change led me to work as a Volunteer Coordinator in a social housing organisation, helping individuals to improve their confidence, skills and employment prospects through volunteering. I now work as a qualified counsellor at my private practice in Bramhall.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
