About me

Hello, I am a BACP registered counsellor, offering 1:1 counselling to adults. This can be short or long term depending on your needs. Currently sessions are held in person, in a comfortable room in Cheltenham, or online via Zoom. I offer a warm, supportive and confidential space where you can explore your feelings, thoughts and experiences. Counselling can help you to look at a particular issue that is worrying you, to make sense of confusing or difficult feelings, to explore deeply rooted issues or simply to understand yourself better.

How to contact me:

You are very welcome to contact me to book a session or to ask any questions. I know that approaching a new counsellor may feel daunting, and so I invite you to have an introductory chat by Zoom or phone. There is no charge for this. You can get in touch by sending an email using the link at the top of this page, or by calling or sending me a text message. I aim to respond to new client enquiries within 2 working days.

N.B. Please check your junk folder, as my replies are sometimes filtered there accidentally.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and follow their Ethical Framework. I have an Enhanced DBS. In addition to my private practice as a counsellor, I have worked as a counsellor in a local counselling agency and for a counselling service for carers. My therapeutic work is supported by over 20 years of experience working with students with mental health difficulties. I also specialise in disability related issues and supporting people with chronic illnesses.

I am an integrative counsellor, which means that I draw upon different models of counselling, adapting my approach to meet your specific needs.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

The first session is always an assessment type session, allowing you to talk about why you feel that counselling would be helpful. It also lets you get to know me and to decide if you are happy to continue with counselling.  If we decide to continue, we discuss the number of sessions we might undertake (a set number with a review, or open ended work) and we agree upon a regular weekly time for the sessions.
