About me

Welcome, my name is Kate Crichton and I am a qualified person-centred therapist. I am a registered counsellor with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapists ( BACP ) and as a registered member I adhere to their code of ethics.

I aim to offer you a non-judgemental, safe and supportive space where you can feel heard in order to explore your thoughts and feelings. I use various techniques to support you in making sense of your world. We will work in partnership to unravel your thoughts and feelings so you may reach a deeper level of understanding about yourself and discover your own answers.

I am fully DBS checked ( enhanced ) and am up to date on the latest safeguarding policies and procedures.

My counselling technique is based on the person-centred approach, offering a safe and confidential space where you can be your true self. I believe the collaborative counselling relationship is fundamental to the success of the work we do together.

At the counselling practice, I offer a range of sessions that fit in with you and your lifestyle. You can choose from Face to Face sessions at the clinic in Welwyn Village, Online Zoom or phone sessions from the comfort of your own home.

I work locally within counselling agencies including a local Hospice and a Family support service. I also work in a senior school meeting with young people and parents. Through these experiences I am used to working with some of the most challenging issues that our lives today present.

I have  experience of working with a wide range of clients and have a particular depth of knowledge of:

  • Bereavement
  • Loss
  • Change
  • Domestic violence
  • Divorce/relationship breakdown
  • Identity
  • Peri and menopausal changes.
  • Neurodiversity.
  • Self-harm

This list is not exhaustive and I am happy to work with you if you are experiencing common mental health problems, personal challenges, or wanting to explore and further your understanding of yourself in a safe space. I tailor my approach to each the individual needs of each client, but all my therapeutic work is underpinned by a belief that each person, with support, can find their way through their challenges. Together we will work through, at your pace, what is troubling you, with no judgement.

During our first session we will get to know each other, allowing us both to assess our suitability to work together.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
