About me
Hello, my name is Karen Yuen and I am an accredited counsellor with over 8 years of experience helping individual adults.
I offer an opportunity for you to explore personal difficulties in a confidential, non-judgmental and supportive environment. You will be supported in understanding and articulating these feelings and emotions, and to understand and gain insight into your situation.
Online and phone counselling support can help with a wide range of issues, I can help you with:
Anxiety
Bereavement, Grief, Loss
Depression
Discrimination
Low self-esteem
Relationships (work, family, friends)
Stress
Trauma
My intention is to help you have a healthier relationship with your thoughts, feelings and emotions, this will help your relationship with self, others and different experiences and situations you encounter in your daily life. I can help you better understand them, find out where they came from, explore them and have more harmony with them. This process can foster growth and lead to positive change in your life. Ultimately, to better understand and accept yourself as a whole being.
I have been trained in an integrative therapeutic approach, incorporating person-centred, humanistic, cognitive, psychodynamic, spiritual and transcultural approaches. This allows me to adapt to the unique individual needs of the client. The foundation of my approach is being client-centred and using the core conditions of unconditional positive regard, genuineness, and empathy, to create an empathic, safe, and non-judgemental space.
As a South East Asian counsellor (Hong Kong Chinese, Vietnam, Myanmar heritage) I understand the nuances of different cultures and how it influences our perspective and interactions with ourselves, others and the world. The direct and indirect discrimination, racism, sexism that all humans experience in daily life and how it can take a toll on our wellbeing.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
