About me

I don’t expect everyone’s journey through counselling to be easy or straight forward, it can be a bumpy ride but I’m here to support you through the ups and downs, you are allowed to make mistakes, get things wrong and change your mind, I won’t judge you or be shocked or disappointed, instead I’ll be there by your side while we figure it out.

My clients genuinely matter to me. My aim is to help my clients gain confidence in their own decisions and choices, empowering them to make the changes they want and gain a greater understanding of their own thoughts and feelings.

I offer person centred talking therapy and ERP therapy, both face to face and remote, to adults, couples and young people over the age of 12.

Whether you want to come for 2 sessions or 102 sessions there is no pressure. Therapy can be flexible; you can dip in and out throughout your life.

There is an intuitive, empathic element to my approach which helps me to challenge my clients in a considerate way.

I have a selection of resources available to help clients to understand their emotions, which can be helpful when the words are hard to find.

Person centred counselling can help with so many issues that I don't think a list can do them justice here! I have experience with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, addiction, grief, trauma and many more. I have only listed some of the most frequent problems that clients might present with, but often the underlying causes can be due to more complex issues. I can help client deal with many of these problems.  If you feel you have an issue not listed here, please don't let that put you off, just get in touch and I'll be happy to answer your questions.

I work with couples from all walks of life with an emphasis on treating the relationship as the client. I understand that relationships can be hard and that coming to therapy is a big step. Many factors such as children, money, affairs, family and work can take their toll on relationships, and you won’t be the first or last couple to go through difficulties.  I offer a neutral space for both parties to feel heard. Relationships take work, it’s important that you come with this in mind. Together we will aim to build communication and understanding. You may be given goals to work on to help implement change and find a way forward.

I also work with teenagers and young adults which is one of the best parts of my job! I can personally relate to the struggles many young people face, both through my own experiences and those of my children and their friends. My relaxed nature and sense of humour have been beneficial in building supportive relationships with my clients.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified, experienced counsellor but I’m also just another person with my own life experiences. I have personally benefited from both individual and couples therapy in the past. I am a registered member of the BACP and have experience with many issues such as, grief, addiction, depression, anxiety, OCD, trauma, relationship issues and dealing with ill health. I also have experience with neurodiversity and clients from the LGBTQI+ community. My training is in person centred counselling and ERP (exposure and response prevention) therapy.

In addition to my private practice work, I work as a counsellor at Gasped in Wakefield and have volunteered in their Man Matters project. I also run an art group at the rehab centre, Reflections House in Castleford. Supporting men with their mental health.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
