About me

Hi, I’m Karen, I am an experienced Person-Centred Counsellor and I offer telephone and video call counselling sessions.

I have worked with people struggling with a wide range of issues such as anxiety, depression, isolation, bereavement, loss, illness, sexual abuse, anger, body image, relationship issues, sexual identity, stress and more. This experience has been gained by working within a GP practice and my private practice.

I offer an environment that is safe and confidential for you to explore and navigate your thoughts and feelings. I will listen non-judgementally to understand your point of view and support you bringing about the changes you wish to make.

I am working one-to-one long and short-term with individuals from the age of 16 years offering daytime or evening appointments normally available within 5 working days.

What counselling can do for you

Coming to counselling is about making a positive choice to seek help from someone who is not involved in any other aspect of your life. It isn’t always easy to talk to the people closest to you about what is troubling you. You may feel guilty about not coping or you may worry about upsetting or burdening others.

I will support you to talk about what is troubling you to discover any root cause or identify ways of thinking that are stopping you moving forward in your life. I will work with you to explore ways of how to move forward, lessening your distress and taking a different perspective.

What people say about me

Clients

I often receive comments from clients such as I’m ‘easy to talk to’, they ‘don’t feel judged’, they feel ‘accepted’, and that I’m ‘caring’ and ‘warm’. I believe these comments show that my clients trust me with their most private thoughts and feelings.

GP Mentor Testimonial

“Karen has demonstrated through her work at our practice excellent counselling skills. She has empowered clients to deal with their personal issues through very effective listening, reflection and motivation and has allowed them to move forward with their lives in a much more self-aware, confident and content way supported by her caring and empathetic approach.” (GP Mentor, March 2019)

How to get in touch with me

Reaching out for help is a big step and may seem daunting. If you have any questions regarding counselling or wish to arrange an appointment, I am happy to be contacted by phone, text or email, whichever you prefer.

If you call and I’m not available to answer please just leave a message and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Your message will only be heard by myself ensuring confidentiality from the outset.

Counselling appointments usually last an hour. This can be weekly or fortnightly whichever suits your circumstances. I also offer an initial half hour appointment which is an opportunity for you to meet me, give an overview of why you are seeking counselling and see how we could work together.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
