About me

Hi, I'm Joanna - Thanks for visiting my page -  Feel free to visit my website as well if you want more information.

About you

Are you sick and tired of feeling sick and tired all the time? It's no fun to be feeling sad and stressed all the time.

Do any of the following resonate with you?

You feel lonely. You struggle to sleep
You are struggling to make any decisions
Your confidence is at an all-time low.
Your mind is working overtime, leaving you exhausted.
You wish you could just switch it all off and unplug from what's happening.

If so, I'm here to help.

How I can help

People tell me that I'm friendly and easy to talk to. I'll enjoy welcoming you and helping put you at your ease. The therapy just starts like a free-flowing conversation, so that we can get to know each other. I will know the right questions to ask you to help clarify the struggles you are experiencing. You choose what you want to talk about, and any goals that you want to set for yourself. The relationship that we will create together will give you the chance to develop and grow. You can feel better.

I help people just like you

Grow in their confidence and develop boundaries. Learn to trust their gut feelings and make decisions that best support a fulfilling life. Clarify their thoughts to reduce feelings of confusion. Learn to say no and stop people-pleasing. Understand unhealthy relationships and the dynamics that underpin this. Think about things differently. Learn to let go of anger, guilt, and shame. Explore healthier ways of coping. Reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. Get connected with others, to reduce the sense of loneliness and isolation. Feel better about themselves. You are enough just as you are!

You get to choose what you want to work on. There is so much we can do.

Domestic Abuse Specialism

It's common for people to struggle to trust their judgements when their self-esteem and confidence has been shattered in an abusive relationship. I'm here to support you find your voice again. When you've been belittled, insulted, and shamed it's no wonder that it's so hard to feel good about yourself. It can be hard to shake off that negative voice inside your head. It's a lonely place to be, and sometimes it's hard to share what's happened behind closed doors with others. I'm here to give you the safe space you need. Where you can feel believed and understood. Where I will know how valuable you are.

Counselling can offer such healing and I will be with you every step of the way.

EMDR THERAPY

If you find that you’re experiencing flashbacks and having nightmares, then EMDR may be the right therapy for you. You want to be able to live your life without fear and terror. You will find a section on EMDR on my ‘how I help’ page on my website.

My professional experience

I have been a counsellor for over twenty years.  I've been employed in this role by various organisations, such as the NHS, Employee Assistance Programmes, and a supported housing charity.  I have a wealth of experience to support you in working towards fulfilling your potential. With me, you are in safe hands.

What to expect when you make contact

I will talk to you briefly over the phone or via email and ask you a little bit about the difficulties you are facing. If it feels like these would be a good fit with counselling and you want to progress, then we can book a session. Or you can give yourself time to think about it.
I have supported many people just like you, so please reach out, there is no need to go it alone.

"I feel like I've got my life back on track, and I feel more confident going forward."

Outside of counselling

I love walking and I have a nine-month-old puppy called Millie. I'm still working on her recall, so I'm often walking with fresh tempting food and her favourite squeaky toy squirrel!

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
