About me
'Owning our story and loving ourselves through the process is the bravest thing we will ever do' Brene Brown
Hello I'm Jo! Wishing you a warm welcome to my page. You may have started looking for a therapist because you are struggling with your feelings and are looking for better ways to cope. You may be looking for a safe space to process some life events that are happening now, or perhaps happened in the past and you've realised how much they are affecting you. I'm here to help and to put your mind at ease about the therapeutic healing journey. I am an integrative therapist and use many models of therapy to help build a plan to support you to achieve your therapeutic goals, build coping skills and support you to start to thrive in your life, work and relationships.
I specialise in working with clients who are experiencing Stress, Anxiety, Burnout and Trauma. I have a special interest in working with clients who are having work related issues, relationship difficulties or going through a life transition - such as relocating, midlife, change or loss of career, becoming a carer for a loved one, or going to University.
I know from personal experience how difficult it can be to make that first step towards your healing journey. I offer a safe, compassionate and non-judgmental approach to therapy and look forward to hearing from you.
My private practice is held at the UNESCO World Heritage Site - Cromford Mills. There are quirky shops, cafe, canal walks, river walks, all less than a minutes walk from my room. A healing destination for your therapeutic journey.
The easiest and best way to get in touch is to drop me an email and I will get back to you within 24 - 48 hours.
I offer a flexible approach to therapy.
I offer in the room, outdoors, virtual and over the phone.
Weekly, fortnightly and monthly appointments available.
I look forward to the opportunity to be able to support and guide you safely on your healing journey. Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions you may have.
Training, qualifications & experience
Experience
I am a Qualified and Licensed Psychotherapist/Counsellor with a background in Senior Leadership, Mental Health and Social Care. Senior Leadership got me up close and personal to the challenges we face at work and the added pressure, stress and potential burnout that comes with performing in certain environments and group dynamics. As a woman in the workplace, despite having a successful and fulfilling career this didn’t stop me from experiencing harassment, discrimination, and bullying. I continue to support many clients navigating these same issues in many different work environments.
My time working in different Mental Health and Social Care provisions, gave me a real insight into the challenges people and their families face when they struggle with their mental health.
The areas I have experience in:
1. Derby and Nottingham Women’s Centre – Domestic abuse, Domestic Violence, relationship issues, Miscarriage, Abortion and Forced Marriage.
2. Carers Service for Unpaid Carers – Dementia, Mental health, Loss and Bereavement, Guilt and Shame.
3. An alternative school provision for 16–24-year old’s from vulnerable and disadvantaged backgrounds; Anxiety, Low Confidence, Self-harm & Suicide, Young Carers.
4. Pupil referral units – Family issues, Domestic Abuse, Bullying.
5. Psychiatric Unit for Schizophrenia and Bipolar – Rehabilitation.
6. Community support for Autism.
7. SEN educational settings.
The people I have met along the way have inspired me along this path of continued professional development and it remains a privilege to be trusted with my client’s life stories – each one a true reflection of the human spirit.
I have spent time working, volunteering, and travelling in different countries. I worked in China for 2 years and spent 4 years in Southeast Asia. I experienced diverse cultures, ways of living and various Eastern healing modalities, all of which influence the therapy I offer.
