About me

Hello and welcome to my profile, my name is Jim. I am aware that seeking personal therapy can be a really anxious and difficult process. Then once you have made the first step and reached out, finding the right counsellor to help explore your concerns can be a daunting prospect. There are so many of us to choose from who have experience in working with a variety of issues.

So, to help with this process I will explain a bit about myself to see if I am the right fit for your needs.

What I can provide:

I am a level 7 Counsellor and Psychotherapist that offers individual sessions to adults and young people. The types of sessions I offer are face to face, online, telephone and walk and talk therapy. Sharing your story or recounting personal experiences can leave you feeling extremely vulnerable, so I will offer a safe space for you to express yourself and process your thoughts and feelings. I will accompany you on this journey without judgement, by providing a listening ear and helping to navigate your way through your issues.

I have expertise in a number of counselling modalities, however, my 3 main modalities are CBT, Attachment Theory and Person-Centred Therapy. So, if you are having issues with a lack of motivation and cannot escape negative thoughts, if you are having issues with self-esteem and you’re feeling lost, or there are moments from your past that are still impacting your life, then hopefully I can help.

Training, qualifications & experience

Qualifications:

I am a member of the BACP and I have a Master’s degree in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy that I gained at the University of Derby.

My background and experience:

I believe that my personal and professional history is vital in shaping who I am today both as a person and as a therapist. From the age of 18 I have had a passion for travelling and I have lived and worked all over the world. Travelling has allowed me to immerse myself in different cultures, and by doing so has provided me the opportunity to connect with people from all over the world which has enriched me with the ability to connect with lots of people, and blessed me with a view of the world and the people who live in it. I have worked with adults and young people in a therapeutic setting for the last 3 years, but I have worked as an activity manager and a youth worker for many years before that.

I am currently working as a school counsellor at a local secondary school where I work with students aged 11-18 who are experiencing various issues such as anxiety, depression, OCD, self-harm, sexuality, academic stress etc. Alongside providing support for students, I also offer counselling sessions for staff.

Other qualifications:

  • Introductory certificate in Safeguarding Children and Young People (Level 3)
  • How to do counselling online (Level 2)
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • Suicide awareness training
  • Drawing and talking therapy training

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have extensive experience working in the recruitment sector. So I can offer support and guidance for people who are facing barriers to get into employment, or people who are struggling to find their right career.
