About me
I offer attachment based, trauma informed, emotion focused psychotherapy to help you with internal problems such as anxiety, depression, hopelessness, or difficult emotions or with problems which arise in relationships but which have an internal component.
I practice ISTDP; a highly effective model of therapy that works deeply, allowing us to access the unconscious emotional processes underlying the issues you want my help with. We will work collaboratively, paying close attention to your embodied experience as we explore your issues. Often I help clients notice and take control of habitual ways of responding to themselves or to others.
My work is psychodynamic and considers early experiences, but with a focus on how these are impacting your current life. Often we are unconsciously carrying around emotions for the past, perhaps continuing to avoid them in ways which were adaptive and helpful when we were younger and in a different circumstance. Now however, those emotions can be triggered and either overwhelm us, or cause us to resort to habits which hurt or limit us. Often clients find that with time they are able to fully and safely experience deep emotions and so no longer need those old, limiting habits.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am registered with the BACP and have a L4 Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have also completed 3 years of core training and ISTDP and am now on the teacher and supervisor training pathway within this approach. I have a BSc in Psychology from Durham University.
I have been counselling clients through charities and in private practice since 2015 and have many more years of experience working with adults and children who need extra support including through play work, horticultural therapy and domestic abuse support work.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information
My rate is for 90 minute sessions. This allows much more progress to be made in each session whilst still keeping you safe by having time to process what arises.
Research shows longer sessions mean less therapy (and less expense) should be needed overall. In fact my preference is to work with a limited number of sessions as I find clients are more likely to acheive the outcomes they want this way.
Further information
I am LGBT+ affirmative and work with relationship diverse clients.
