About me

I am a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist and an HCPC Registered Clinical Psychologist based in Cardiff. With over 36 years of practice as a psychotherapist and counsellor working with couples, families and individual adults and children, I have experience within a range of setting including private practice and independent psychotherapy services as well as in-patient and community based psychiatric services.

It may be that you are parents who are concerned for a child or are struggling with your relationship with a child and need a space to talk things through in a positive and calm way as a family. On the other hand, you may be facing distress as a couple where therapy can make it possible to have conversations without toxic conflict and blame, helping you both to find a way forward.

You might need a new perspective, to find a different view, to see things in another light in order to be free from struggle or to find the resilience you need to manage this. It may be that you need to feel safer or more confident in living the life that you really want.

Often people ask: “What is wrong with me?” Instead of looking for shortcomings I am interested in asking: “What are you encountering in your life?” My professional and personal experience has shown me that all human struggles are surrounded by conditions, relationships and circumstances that can make sense of how individuals are attempting to deal with the challenges they are facing.

“Where do you find yourself now and what path are you choosing?”

My approach is personal and orientated towards exploring possibilities, increasing a sense of choice when things feel overwhelming, and understanding what you think might work best for you

When your concerns are more about someone else close to you or those you love are hurting you either intentionally or unconsciously, I know from my practice experience that if couples or family members can find a way to meet with me together, partners and family members can be a resource to one another to find new ways of being and new solutions.

The first step is to call me to talk briefly about your concerns. We can then consider who should come to the first meeting, and what the best next step might be in setting up an appointment.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
