About me

Counselling offers a space to talk about the things that are affecting you, whether that is experiencing painful emotions, difficult life events (such as bereavement or loss), relationship problems, anxiety and depression, physical health issues etc.  Talking to a trained counsellor in a confidential, non-judgemental environment allows you to explore how you truly think and feel about these issues. It can help you to make sense of your experiences and help you see different perspectives. Gaining a deeper understanding of yourself can help you to move forward in a more empowered way.

What can I offer?

As a qualified person-centred, humanistic counsellor and psychotherapist, I can offer you the space to focus on the problems or issues you face. Sessions are  centred around you - your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, life experiences. I do not give you advice on what to do, but rather I work with you to help you find meaningful solutions to your issues. I can help you to listen to your own voice,  and find your own strengths, self-belief and direction.

Whilst I work with adults of all ages, I work with many clients who are struggling with their mental health in mid-life.  You may be juggling the demands of children, partners, ageing parents, work and home, as well as coping with, for example, menopause, chronic illness, loss, etc.  Such circumstances can give rise to a variety of difficult emotions which can be hard to manage and which can impact others. Counselling can really help in these circumstances.

How I work

I work face to face from my counselling room in Sale, Cheshire (with disabled access and facilities), online or by telephone.

I understand that it can be daunting to talk to someone about personal issues especially with someone you do not know. We will therefore always work at your pace and deal with the issues that you bring to sessions. I will always treat you with respect, honesty and understanding. We will regularly review how you are finding the counselling to ensure that our time together is working effectively for you.

Initial no obligation chat

I offer a 20-minute telephone consultation without charge where we can discuss why you are seeking therapy and what you would like to get out of it. You will be able to find out more about how I work and ask any questions about counselling that you may have. It is important that you feel comfortable with your counsellor, so this first chat will allow you to get a sense of whether you feel you could work with me. I will also be able to assess if I have the right skills to work with you. There is absolutely no obligation for you commit to sessions after our initial telephone consultation.

I am a fully qualified person-centred counsellor and psychotherapist. I hold:

As a registered member of the BACP, I adhere to their Ethical Framework. I am fully committed to my continued learning and development as a counsellor, by participating in regular training and supervision. I am fully insured and am registered with the Information Commissioner's Office.

I am a recognised healthcare provider by WPA and WPA Protocol in respect of their medical healthcare schemes.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
