About me

Jane Collings MBACP, Dip (counselling/psychotherapy)

*Now taking appointments for face to face counselling. Safety/hygiene measures will be carried out before and after each session. Please see website for details on this.*

Are you feeling anxious, stuck or sad?  Perhaps you're feeling held back by something that happened in the past, or maybe you feel inadequate in some way, or self conscious.  Whatever your problem I'm here to help you feel better about yourself and more deserving of the life you really want.

Some of the things you can expect to achieve from having counselling are:

  • Identifying and removing the blocks to happiness
  • Improvements in managing relationships
  • Strengthening your sense of who you are
  • Feeling more confident and in control
  • Managing symptoms of trauma from past events (eg nightmares, flashbacks, paranoia)
  • Lessening feelings of shame
  • Figuring out what you want

It can be difficult to talk to friends and family about everything that's going on for you. I'm here to listen to you with warmth and to understand you without judgement or criticism. Working with me gives you the chance to express and explore all of your fears and emotions in as much or as little depth as you want, in a completely confidential space.
I'm trained to listen to and understand the difficult emotions that you're dealing with, and I understand how hard it can be to find peace in yourself,  or to trust in life after an upsetting event or a loss.

While I was growing up I had a sense that I was less than other people. When I became an adult, my lack of confidence and feeling not good enough led to repeated difficulties in things like relationships and work. Therapy transformed my life and led me to training in counselling and hypnotherapy so that I could help others feel better about themselves. I now have over nine years’ experience working in therapy, including counselling adults, young people over 16, and couples.

I work with people with a wide range of issues, but areas of particular interest include trauma/ PTSD and relationships. I have a lot of experience in counselling survivors of trauma such as childhood sexual abuse, and with people in recovery from addiction. For couples, I use an emotionally focused model of therapy (EFT) which you can read more about on my website,  jctherapy.uk  (There's a link at the side of the page.)

I also offer clients self healing tools to use at home such as meditation, grounding and breathing techniques for relaxation and better sleep. If you feel you'd like to try any of these we can include them in your sessions.

If you are looking for help with any of the following:

  • Relationship problems
  • Anxiety
  • Lack of self worth
  • Difficulty trusting
  • Trauma from a past event/PTSD
  • Abuse
  • Jealousy
  • Gender dysphoria
  • Sexuality issues
  • Paranoia/ self consciousness

Please contact me to make a start on feeling better.
Phone:  07765 123 712 or email me.

Individual sessions with me are 50 minutes long. I charge £45 for a daytime session and £50 for evenings. Couples sessions are 60 minutes long and are charged at £65.
There are sometimes a few lower cost daytime spaces available for students and those on a low income. Please ask me about this when you make contact with me and I'll see if I can accommodate you.

Asking for help and engaging in therapy can feel strange at first. You might wonder:

  • What will be expected of me?
  • Are my problems important/valid enough?
  • What if I'm not very good at talking or explaining?
  • Will the counsellor think badly of me for what I tell them?

Concerns like these are more common than you might think, and can stop you from getting the help you need. For some people, asking for help can feel like admitting there is something 'wrong' with them, and for others, that they might not be worthy of it.  I aim to help you feel at ease about these kinds of worries as best I can. Although the thought of talking to a stranger about personal things can be daunting, it's ok for you to cry, or to lose the thread of what you're saying.  I can help you with it.

We can address any questions you have about counselling itself at our initial session or, if it helps you can opt to book a free 15 minute chat with me on the phone before deciding to make an appointment.

I also offer full sessions via Zoom or over the phone.

For more information on couples therapy and about how counselling works, please visit my website.

I'm fully insured and a member of the BACP. This means I abide by their code of ethics and professional standards, and undergo regular supervision to ensure my practice receives the best informed care.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
