About me

If you find yourself here, then I expect there is something within you that desires change. Maybe you don’t think change is possible, and yet you’re here, wanting things to be different.  Through working with me as your therapist, I hope to inspire belief within you that no matter how long things have been this way, that we all have the potential to change and to grow into the individuals we want to be.

This might be the first time you’ve considered getting help and perhaps you’ve told yourself for a long time that other people in your life matter more, or things aren’t that bad. Maybe you’ve come from an environment where feelings and mental health weren’t talked about or valued. As we ignore our emotions they can just keep building to the point where we feel we cannot cope anymore. As a therapist, I don’t want to assume your experience. I just hope to bring a sense of normality to the struggles we can go through. It’s okay to feel unable to cope. Perhaps it hasn’t been safe for you to pause and reflect on how you feel. I provide a safe and confidential space where you can express how hard things are and not be judged for it.

Many of my clients arrive to the therapy room with little confidence and a tendency to put others before themselves. Throughout my work with all my clients, I seek to support them to find their own voice, perhaps for the first time and to find their true identity free from shame.

With my current level 5 training to become an integrative children’s and young people’s therapist, I bring in creative methods of working besides being limited to talking. In acknowledging how diverse we all are with neurodiversity, temperaments and personalities, I adapt my way of working to support clients in finding ways to express their feelings through objects, clay and drawing if this is something the client would like to do.

~ What clients say ~

“Indy has been the first therapist where I genuinely look forward to therapy. I find sitting in a chair so uncomfortable so I would bring my knitting project. Indy didn’t mind at all as she preferred me to be comfortable. Working with indy has been life changing for me. I’ve learned so much, my self-awareness has increased and I look forward to life.”

~ N, 22.

“I found Indy to be a highly professional therapist. Although much younger than me, Indy is mature beyond her years and her training and expertise enabled her to relate to me and my issues very effectively. I would not hesitate to recommend Indy most highly to anyone needing therapy.”

~ M, 60

“I was not convinced therapy would work for me but my opinion has changed completely. Indy helped me understand what I wanted to achieve through therapy and supported me as I reached my goals. I am certain that my sessions with Indy have helped me to better understand my personal issues and I cannot express gratitude enough!”

~C, 24

“At first I was scared as I’ve never opened up about how I feel but she was very welcoming and I felt safe from the first session! Before therapy I would’ve never put myself first as it felt wrong but Indy helped me understand that it’s natural to focus on yourself. Each session has been productive and I come out feeling a little bit better each time, would highly recommend to anyone! She is professional and supportive”

 ~ JM 22

"Indy has been really helpful. I go about my life with a jumble of feelings which have been restrictive and harmful to my mental health and she has been brilliant at helping me to unpack them, lay them out a bit at a time so I can see them clearly in a more objective way, start understanding them so I have a stronger base to move forward from. I feel empowered to help myself.”

Training, qualifications & experience

As a Person-Centred trained therapist, I always begin by building a foundation of safety and trust with my client through providing empathy within a non-judgemental space. Through therapy, I help a client explore how their past affects their present and help them explore the many narratives that can feed into our perception of ourselves.

Throughout my work I like to integrate other approaches I have learned and bring in a more directive approach through using coaching skills and exposure therapy where I feel it would be beneficial, useful and appropriate. This can enable a client to move forward through finding strategies to implement changes in patterns of thinking and behaviour.  I am a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and have regular supervision and am fully insured. I am particularly interested in working with clients around self-esteem issues and toxic shame and relationship issues. I am also interested in supporting those who have experienced narcissistic abuse and I create a welcoming space for neurodiverse clients with my knowledge and experience of working with clients with ADHD and Autism. I am also experienced working with clients with anxiety, depression, loneliness, family issues, disability, parenting, trauma, BPD grief and anger.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.
