Honora Totman - Counsellor & Psychotherapist MBACP. Couples and Individuals
Are you feeling disconnected from the important relationships in your life? Would you like to experience healthier connections? Now is the time to start that process.
With 22 years’ experience working with couples and individuals I focus on creating a safe space for my clients where we can develop a supportive relationship that fosters the growth and healing you deserve. I believe that the counselling process is different for everyone and there is no "one size fits all" approach to therapy, so we will work closely together to develop counselling goals that will meet your unique needs.
Having worked in a variety of settings, such as Relate Maidenhead and Windsor, GP surgeries, and continue to work with Relate National as a consultant couple therapist based in Cheltenham at the Mediation Centre, as well as my own private practice here in Cheltenham.
How may I help you?
I draw upon a broad spectrum of psychotherapeutic knowledge, I believe that no single approach has all the answers, therefore I can offer the most effective tools and techniques from different modalities and have helped clients overcome:
- relationship breakdowns
- life stage
- low self-esteem
- end of a significant relationship
- stress and anxiety
My approach is to enable the exploration of feelings and thoughts about oneself and relationships with others, and to understand the connection between how our past experiences and our current behaviours may result in negative outcomes. The process is collaborative, based on respect, and is non-judgemental.
In my opinion the key to gaining the best possible outcome is the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client(s). Therefore I will always recommend an Assessment Consultation to see if you feel comfortable working with me, likewise, to see if I can offer the expertise you need. The length of ongoing therapy will be dependent on your individual needs and is usually for a mutually agreed period discussed at the end of the Assessment Consultation.

Here is a little feedback from some of my clients:
"Just to say 'thank you' for your support and insight over the past few months, and for helping me to find a better place in life." Noola G.
"Honora is a good counsellor, direct in her approach on occasions, but I like that. We would not have benefitted from someone who just held up the mirror. She provided a safe, neutral place to explore our relationship and has helped me to understand better my role in our marriage and helped to find better ways to communicate and to nurture our partnership; we count ourselves as very fortunate to have worked with a skilled counsellor. We would highly recommend her." Mr & Mrs Smythe
"Honora enabled me (a notoriously closed soul) to find an outlet to talk in a space that I felt supported and understood. This proved alien to me at first but due to her help I think/hope my wife's understanding of me , and in contrast, my greater understanding of her will play a huge part in our long future together." Mr & Mrs Samuel D
