About me

I have a genuine interest and care in getting to know your world, the beliefs you hold and the meaning you make of your experiences. By exploring and understanding these, together we may recognise and transform some of the unhelpful messages that may be hurting you, holding you back or triggering unwanted behaviours.  I maintain the trust, privacy and well-being of the client while supporting them through whatever they want to bring to the sessions.

I believe a lot of good can come from being able to be completely and honestly ourselves with another person. To be seen, heard, accepted and cared for while sharing sometimes difficult or unpleasant experiences can help to heal past wounds, or cope with current struggles. I believe we all have the capacity to find the answers we need given the right conditions, so I aim to help you find the solutions or resolutions you’re looking for without labelling or pushing you in a particular direction.

People come to therapy for many different reasons but often they are dissatisfied, uncomfortable or distressed by aspects of their life and are seeking some kind of change. I believe therapy can help to increase self- awareness and self-acceptance in order to feel more in control and live in a more empowered and fulfilling way.

For me, therapy is collaborative, and my aim is to facilitate an open and honest relationship with all of my clients. To see if we could work well together, I offer a free, 30-minute initial meeting over Google Meet.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a BA (Hons) in Person-Centred counselling from Middlesex University and a diploma in Person-Centred counselling from the Metanoia Institute.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work in accordance with their ethical framework.

Before setting up private practice I previously worked with charities and independent counselling services. I have helped clients to have more autonomy in their lives while overcoming issues such as, but not limited to, childhood trauma, domestic violence, sexual violence, anxiety, depression, anger management, self-harm, eating disorders and family & relationship difficulties.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

Person-Centred counselling is the foundation I work from. As a Person-Centred therapist, I provide empathy, authenticity, understanding, valuing and acceptance of the client. According to Person-Centred counselling these are the core conditions which we need to grow.

Carl Rogers, the founder of Person-Centred therapy said; “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” I believe by being more accepting of our feelings, we can move more fluidly through them. When wrestling with "unwanted" emotions, we often become stuck, but by working with them with curiosity and compassion, it’s possible to find greater understanding and depth. When we don’t restrict our “negative” emotions, we are also freer to enjoy the more positive ones and find we can expand our capacity for love and joy within ourselves, in our lives and in our relationships.

I am a trauma informed therapist and understand the effect trauma has on the nervous system. I believe a holistic approach of working with awareness of both the mind and body is most helpful in this area. I also find particular theories provide a helpful language, so I often integrate concepts such as Transactional Analysis, Internal Family Systems, Attachment Theory, Polyvagal Theory, and adapt my practice to suit the client’s individual needs.
