About me

I'm a BACP Accredited Counsellor.

In addition to working with Adults, I am qualified and experienced in counselling for Children, Teenagers and Young People.

I work with children (from age 5) to Adults.

I'm based close to Bishops Stortford, Stansted and Saffron Walden where I have a private, welcoming, well-equipped therapy room or, if preferred, I can hold your sessions online.

Whatever your reason for seeking counselling, I will provide a place which is safe and calming. You and/or your child will be met with warmth, empathy and understanding.

I'm an experienced school counsellor. I have worked in mainstream primary and secondary schools in state and independent sectors. I've worked with the charity, Place2Be,  in a residential special school for children with social, emotional and mental health needs and most recently, in a boarding school.

All sorts of stresses and worry can bring children and young people to counselling. I can help you / your child with issues including: anxiety, exam stress, low self esteem, social anxiety, low mood and feeling sad, bereavement, concern over body image and identity, self-harm, transition from primary school, bullying, gaming and social media pressure, feeling lost and alone, depression, stress, trauma and abuse, divorce and relationship worries and teen pregnancy.

Sometimes, it is hard to find the words to say exactly how we feel.   I am trained to work with play and creative materials to help children and young people show and explore meaning. My room is equipped with a wide range of play and art materials, objects and sensory materials - all of which are safe and suitable for all ages.

I am an Accredited member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and work according to their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions and the Competencies for working with children.

I offer face to face sessions and I can offer online sessions using ZOOM.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
