Gill Wharmby BA (Hons), Dip HE, MBACP Counsellor for Children and Young People
I'm a qualified Person-Centred Counsellor based close to Bishops Stortford, Stansted and Saffron Walden.
I work in my private therapy room which offers a welcoming, safe and confidential environment.
I'm qualified and experienced in working with children and young people.
I've worked as a school counsellor in both primary and secondary schools and also with the charity, Place2Be.
Issues such as anxiety, exam stress, low self esteem, feeling sad, bereavement, concern over body image and identity, self-harm, transition from primary school, bullying, gaming and social media pressure, feeling lost and alone, depression, stress, trauma and abuse, divorce and relationship worries and teen pregnancy have all presented in my counselling work.
I value each of my clients as unique individuals and respect that we all respond to difficult emotions in different ways and with different behaviours. Sometimes, feelings are too overwhelming to process or it may be difficult to find the right words. I recognise that there are many ways to express our feelings and I am experienced in offering creative and play-based interventions to help in the times when words might be hard to find.
I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and work according to their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions and Competences for working with children.
I work with both primary and secondary age children.
